Bra fitting - which shop?

I need new bras - after years of breastfeeding I’m finally ready to ditch the nursing bras but my old ones no longer fit.

I’m currently boycotting m and s (see the feminism board if anybody wants to know why!), which is where I used to go.

Where’s good for bras? Both basic everyday and slightly more attractive? I’m not sure what size I am now so would prefer fitters.

Try boob or bust online for measurements

Shop depends on size, some are aimed at larger woman

8by8 · 14/11/2019 07:31

Ah I’m not “plus size” - more a 14/16

I found Boux Avenue very good as an alternative to M&S.

TheyMostlyComeOutAtNightMostly · 14/11/2019 07:39

M&S are terrible: your political stance has saved you from a dreadful fate (Are you quite new here to have missed the bra intervention threads?).

John Lewis are usually pretty good. But once you’ve tried Boob or Bust measurements you may find you’re a huge cup size and should be going to Bravissimo.

Fairylea · 14/11/2019 07:43

M and s are utterly crap at measuring anyway.

Bravissimo are good.

This is a good link as well-

@ TheyMostlyComeOutAtNightMostly - I’ve been on here for years but never paid much attention to the boob threads tbh!

Will do some measuring later on.

Bravissimo are great...

I went for one in Debenhams a few weeks ago and couldn't recommender enough. Very kind member of staff, no pressure selling, solid advice. Also they will give you an extended period on returns if you buy anything

MinesaPinot · 14/11/2019 13:27

I've been fitted at M & S (crap), John Lewis (better), Rigby and Peller (hmm, not sure) and Debenhams (OK) with sizes ranging from a 36D to a 34F and everything up, down and sideways.

I'm going to make an appointment at Bravissimo after seeing the recommendations on here.

Dalooah · 14/11/2019 13:49

Bravissimo for sure. Always do a fab job and won't try and squeeze you into something just because that's the only size they have. (M&S!) I've always found the fitters very professional and helpful!

I went to a Bravissimo shop and had a good fitting. But I think once you know the basics, you can sort yourself out.

Lean forward to put boobs in cups.
All boob flesh should be inside cup.
The front middle of the band should be flat against your chest, in between your boobs.
You should be able to get two fingers under the back strap but not much more otherwise it’s too big and will ride up.
Personally, I can’t stand them being too tight so I sometimes flout this rule.

After that it’s a question of personal preference in terms of whether you like the lift and separate torpedo look or more of a cleavage look.

Bravissimo!

Another vote for Bravissimo.
