Footwear for plant fasciitis

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 13/11/2019 19:55

I'm unable to wear much more than Skechers training shoes most of the time at the moment, with small ventures into reasonably supportive but chunky boots with a memory insole. I've always favoured comfortable over fashionable footwear, but I seem to have plumbed new depths of lack of style Sad For fellow sufferers, you have my sympathy. But please tell me how you have avoided fashion siberia.

No one else has this, or no one will confess on S & B Grin?

I had agonising PF in both feet for over a year. I think it was caused by wearing Birkenstock gizah style sandals, which meant my toes were 'gripping' slightly all the time. I've changed the style of sandal I wear, and i'm really careful about new shoes. For shoes / boots I wear Vionic or Dr Martens now. Vionic are expensive, but are really good quality and last years. I'm on the third year of the same pair of Serena boots and they look like new. QVC sometimes have deals on them.

Albgo · 14/11/2019 16:06

I'm a fan of Hotters. Most of their shoes are pretty supportive (and at least don't make my pf worse).

teta · 14/11/2019 16:19

Can I just say that Tk Maxx online have had a pretty good selection of Vionics in lots of differing styles. I've bought several ....including Boots .
Yeah, Vionics all the way for plantar fascitis.

OhDearEthel · 14/11/2019 16:22

Get something padded and supportive! Also, thoroughly recommend shockwave therapy, has reasonably good evidence behind it as well

Thanks all. Will go and check these suggestions out.

Get it fixed have biomechanics specialist take a look at your body alignment. Yes it’s possible to have it fixed it’s not easy to find such a person but they are out there. Wearing a wedge or comfortable shoes and painkillers isn’t the answer.

Liskee · 14/11/2019 21:55

Have you got orthotics? Was the only thing that sorted my plantar fasciitis, and now I can wear ALL. the shoes....as long as the insoles first into them Grin

APerkyPumpkin · 14/11/2019 21:57

Go onto you tube and find Brad and Bobs plantar fascitis stretches. They got rid of my last bout of PF in two days. It's all in the toe stretches.

Fitflops!! They do slippers, boots, brogues, wellies & are soooo comfy.

My podiatrist recommended them.

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 14/11/2019 22:19

I had this - probably also from Birkies. I got some Oofos flip flops. They are the best things ever - I wore them at home all the time when I had the issue - and for work. They are heaven!

carrie74 · 15/11/2019 06:58

I had PF for about a year (also from Birkies I think). I basically wore trainers every day (but proper running trainers, not fashion ones), and massaged my feet and calves every morning. 8 think the massage is what finally got rid of it, and I still do them most mornings to keep on top of it. I had ludicrously tight calf muscles, had a few proper massages focussing just on my legs too which helped.

ProfYaffle · 15/11/2019 07:04

Not shoes but Foothugz slippers are great. I never go barefoot and always wear these when cooking/ironing etc It's made a huge difference and my PF is starting to clear up now.

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 15/11/2019 07:12

Hmm, Birkenstocks are what get me through the summer with mine, its different for everyone. I can't wear anything with memory foam soles, my podiatrist warned off Skechers.

In winter I wear boots with orthotics, switch to Birkenstocks for summer and in between I wear trainers. Mine is completely gone at the moment so I can wear normal shoes for the odd day but have never found any shoes I can wear with orthotics.

Eminybob · 15/11/2019 07:18

It’s funny that people are saying that theirs has been caused by Birkenstock’s, becuasw mine, which I’d had for about 2 year was completely gone after a summer of wearing birkies.

MaidenMotherCrone · 15/11/2019 07:22

I swear by Birkenstocks. Not just in summer either. Try the Bartlett boots.

milienhaus · 15/11/2019 07:23

You can get little cushions which fit around your arch on Amazon - I wear these with any normal shoes to keep the OF at bay. I also have insoles which I wore when it was really bad. Never bought any special shoes.

alphaechokiwi · 15/11/2019 07:55

The Birkenstock gizah style greatly exacerbated mine. I realise now that they forced my toes to slightly 'grip' which caused the PF. However I switched to the mayari style and they were fine. The front of my foot is held a lot more securely in that style.

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 15/11/2019 07:56

What I would say about Birkenstocks is that they need to be done up to fit snuggly, no flapping about. Gizeh, Mayari and Arizona are the best for me as they come high up the foot, I can't wear Madrids.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 27/11/2019 11:53

Thanks all. Expletive do you know why your podiatrist is anti-sketchers, out of interest?

They said I needed firm support, not soft, memory foam soles, which proved to be true.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 27/11/2019 18:49

Oh, that's handy to know, thanks.

I got PF while pregnant and it’s recently gone after getting some boots from Ecco.
