AIBU to ask if anyone still uses Avon products? Are they any good/worth the money?

I am shocked at the prices tbh. I used to get them because they had good offers on but even the pyjamas were nearly £15.
you may as well go and choose some in the supermarket.

Their Anew range is great. I like their eyeliners and their gel finish (no uv light) type nail varnishes are brill. Dip you toe in the water with a few things. You can buy samples to test allergies and colours too. I did that with the foundation. Have yet to finish my other brand one so I’ve not tried the big bottle yet.

I don't think I've got a handbag or coat without a glimmer stick in. Really like them. Smoky diamond is my favourite

AuntieStella · 12/11/2019 23:25

The nail varnish is really good. So are the huge bottles of bubble bath

WombleishOfTheThighs · 13/11/2019 09:09

According to PETA, who are twats in general, but I trust them on this, Avon products are still tested on animals in China, as per my last post at 7.28pm yesterday.

Marcipex · 13/11/2019 10:34

Thank you Womble for confirming that.

I won’t be buying.

Mauroz1966 · 13/11/2019 11:07

Very few cosmetic brands are cruelty free. Most people don't realise. Can't post a screen shot but the following aren't cruelty free: Rimmel, L'Oréal, Maybelline, Max factor Revlon, Lancome, Estée Lauder, Nars and many more! All these brands sell in China therefore must be animal tested.

WombleishOfTheThighs · 13/11/2019 11:27

Yes, @Mauroz1966, but according to all of them they are cruelty free and omit to mention the China thing. It also helps to find out who the parent company is. Lots of brands who are cruelty free in themselves are owned by the big companies such as Proctor & Gamble etc.

Mauroz1966 · 13/11/2019 14:49

You're right..and that makes it virtually impossible to only use cruelty free products!

BusterGonad · 13/11/2019 15:19

I love Avon as I love looking at make up products in general so do have a whole brochure in front of me is heaven, their (automatic) lip liners are great, I love their skin care too. Generally it's all good quality but I don't think I'd ever buy foundation without testing it or buy anything full price.

No its not tested on animals.

WombleishOfTheThighs · 13/11/2019 21:13

Avit, it is in China. The tests are not performed by Avon, but their products are legally required to be by Chinese law, therefore they are not cruelty free. To be claim to genuinely cruelty free they need to stop selling in China.

The following is an extract from Avon's own declaration on their website:

'If Avon doesn’t test on animals, why does PETA include Avon on a list of companies that test on animals?
Although Avon does not test on animals, PETA includes Avon on its list of companies that sell beauty products in China. China legally requires animal testing on products it designates as “special use” - such as sunscreens and deodorants - sold in China, as well as ordinary cosmetics imported into China. The Chinese government conducts the tests at laboratories accredited by the Chinese Food and Drug Administration.

Are any of the Avon products tested in China sold in countries other than China?
No Avon products that have been tested by China is sold by any Avon market in Europe, Middle East, Africa or Latin America. Our goal is for no Avon products that have been tested by China to be sold by any Avon market other than China by the end of 2019.'

So they appear to be heading in the right direction, but they still allow animal testing on their products by China. That does not make them cruelty free in my mind.

VikingVolva · 14/11/2019 07:47

They're not heading in the right direction.

They were cruelty free (for a while) until they decided to start selling in China. So they stepped backwards to reach their current position (which is also that of many other companies whose products are sold in China)
