Alternatives to Alpha H's Liquid Gold

Been reading about how denat alcohol's not great for the skin, and just realised that it's #2 on the ingredients list of LG! The problem is, out of all the products that I've tried (mainly The Ordinary's 7% Glycolic Acid, Pixie Glow), this seems to be the only one that keeps my skin from feeling 'rough'. What substitutes are out there?

Bit about me and my skin: late 20s, oily skin, had a massive problem with cystic acne in my early 20s, acne is gone now (thank goodness) but I've got all these gross pitted scars that I am actively trying to ignore (by not wearing glasses) since ££££ of CO2 lasers/Peels/Needling did absolutely nothing Grin

If it’s working for you why change? I’ve used liquid gold and was perfectly happy with it and I have very oily acne prone skin.

Drunk elephant framboos glycolic is 12% I’ve used that with no issue. I currently use DE babyfacial which is 25% although you have to wash that off so more work and I have to get it directly from the states.

I also have pitted acne scarring, have been looking at subexcision? I think it’s called and also looking at getting fillers to plump up the pitted scars.

I had a similar no alcohol policy until LG changed my mind.

I tried a few other glycolic things- Garden of Wisdom Glycolic Serum, Bravura Gylcolic Serum, Pixi Glow Tonic I remember, others I’ve forgotten they made so little impression.

Nothing as good as LG. Not in results nor for the sheer easiness of every couple of nights use LG after cleansing and skip everything else. And it means I can use a dearer night oil that I’d usually go for cos I use it less, and not use a serum. So cost efficiency too.

I did read somewhere that if alcohol is just used as a rapidly evaporating delivery system that enables actives to be delivered in a very thin layer it’s not that damaging. Hang on, I’ll see if I can find it...

Mainly because there's a lot of conflicting debate wrt that particular ingredient and it made me wonder if my skin was oiler/probably dehydrated (?) thanks to that. Have tried to switch to something else to test out that theory but have never gone off it long enough due to how everything else leaves me with 'rough' skin.

Will look into the Drunk Elephant stuff! Tried their Protini cream which did nothing and the Vit C which broke me out but guess I'll give them another shot.

I've been looking into subcision + fillers actually. The general consensus seems to be that it'll mainly work for rolling and some boxcar scars, not ice pick ones. Lucky me has all of them so that's an option. Have you done it?

Why alcohol is safe in skincare despite what Paula Begoun Says

There is one alternative glycolic product I found that is really good.

Anadalou Naturals Pumpkin Honey Glycolic Brightening Mask
It’s about a tenner at Holland and Barrett.

It leaves skin feeling really smooth.

Paula's Choice has several glycolic acid products, something from there?
