Good quality earrings for teenager

My sixteen year old had her ears pierced during the summer and I want to buy her first "proper" stud type earrings for Christmas. It will be her main present so I want to buy something that"s good quality and "classic" but I also want her to actually like and wear them. Does anyone have any ideas? Would a voucher be better?

Trouble is I have no idea where to look. On-line will be best as we live outside the UK. She is of slim frame - so a fairly delicate style will work well I think - would gold, or silver or titanium be best?

Could some kind person point me in the direction of a few likely shops please? Thank you!

My dd was younger when she got hers pierced so we have been through quite a lot of lost earrings.

Heather Needham does a great range of simple, well priced silver studs. You can either buy from her website or via amazon. It's a family business so I'm sure they'd be helpful about shipping.

Alternatively I've bought a few things from Hi Ho Silver. I know they ship internationally.

I was coming on to say, are you sure you want to pay a reasonable amount of money for earrings for her? I still can't be trusted with earrings and I'm 36 Halloween Grin. Your teenager is probably more responsible than I am, but they are by far my most frequently lost item. Sometimes they fall off when you're taking your jumper off or whatever and they're so tiny you don't notice!

I'd go with something bigger like a bracelet or a ring.

You should opt for 18 carat gold or stainless / surgical steel for the first pair as silver can sometimes bring up allergies if not pure enough. I got ted baker studs for my DNs first earrings (when she was 5) and she still wears them everyday at 8. Another option if you really want to go all out is to get diamond studs from a local jeweller - £500-600 should get you something really special.

Thank you all very much indeed for some really good suggestions and good advice too! It's much appreciated!

I think you are probably right about not spending a huge amount. Might get some cheaper earrings and spend the rest of the money on clothing vouchers instead!

I particularly like the Hi Ho Silver designs thank you!

Although noted about potential allergies!

We bought an expensive pair of earrings for my daughter, similar age as yours and she lost 1, she was a bit annoyed about that so I wouldn't bother buying expensive. We recently tried Solace jewellery as she reacts to cheaper earrings and pleased with them, they're anti allergy and hypo-allergenic.

DonKeyshot · 12/11/2019 20:00

If you're buying earrings that are more than a tenner or so, I suggest you look for leverback as they're certainly more longlasting for me than butterfly backs.

Titanium is also non-allergenic.

My dd has a pair of sterling silver Tiffany earrings which would come under your budget. They were originally mine but she needed a classic design for school that wouldn't irritate her ears, they have been great.

I can really recommend jewellery from here

Thank you so much for yet more pointers and recommendations!

dreichwinter just mulling over whether dd is responsible enough to receive something with that distinctive light blue box! Not sure ... .

Hadn't heard of lever backs so thanks for that tip DonKeyshot!

I would take a look at the Chelsea collection from Carat London www.caratlondon.com/collections/chelsea I will definitely put some of them on my Santa's list 🎅😊

Ask your piercer about titanium jewellery. I think the company is called industrial strength who does the supply. The costs vary from a tenner all the way to a couple of hundred. Lots of different stones used. Lifetime guarantee and the jewellery is a flat back labret style which is screwed in so difficult to loose

Alwayscheerful · 13/11/2019 09:14

@DonKeyshot I agree, lever backs are a new thing for me, I can't be trusted with butterfly earrings they rarely last longer than a week. Where do you recommend for leverbacks?

Sistercharlie · 13/11/2019 12:38

Thank you again for replies! Out for lunch but looking forward to chasing up these suggestions!

You have to shop around but if you put 'leverback earrings' in eBay's search engine you'll be spoilt for choice. Look past the cheap & cheerful (although there's nothing wrong with them if they take your fancy) and there are some lovely Swarovski crystal numbers and precious and semi-precious stones in various drop settings.

Having just lost one of my absolute favourite twinkly black spinel earrings which I very much doubt I'll be able to replace, it's going to be leverbacks all the way for me.

I have a few pairs of stud earrings from astley Clarke - they do some v expensive pairs but also some lovely simple studs in gold and silver
