Botox for gummy smile

Has anyone who has had botox for a gummy smile willing to share their experience with me?

I have been looking at it a lot and I really want to do it. It is expensive (for my budget) and I'm worried about the upkeep or that it won't work.

My top lip disappears when I smile and it has bothered me for almost 30 years. My teeth are not great (working on them though) and it would be nice if I didn't also show a mile of gum every time as well.

I might be mistaken but as far as I am aware, Botox for a gummy smile essentially drops your lip down so your top lip would still disappear.

Botox for a lip flip, on the other hand, does the opposite and aims to make your lip curl up slightly so would make your lips look slightly fuller.

However the issue with both is that the Botox relaxes the muscles around your mouth which may lead to a lack of facial movement in an important area - you might have difficulty talking, eating, speaking, smiling etc as a result. Don’t underestimate this as you may be left with new cosmetic problems until the product wears off.

Personally I would recommend subtle lip filler instead, which may balance your face/smile more and you can have it placed in a way to drop your top lip down.

I'm not so bothered about my top lip being so thin, just the amount of gum on show when I smile ( like the before here but I think even more gummy!). I worry that fillers would alter my appearance too much and also not cover the gum enough? Something to consider though and I am going to look more in to it. Thank you!

That’s an impressive before and after, I didn’t realise they could do that

Me, and I love it. But... it doesn’t last long, around 8 weeks ish and feels weird as in you can’t purse your lips properly so drinking a cup of tea feels slightly strange.

You’re right, I don’t think you’d necessarily get that drastic of a difference with a small amount of filler alone.

You could achieve something more like the attached which is just filler. As you can see, the filler is placed more specifically in the underside of the top lip so it doesn’t alter the shape much, meaning that it wouldn’t drastically alter your appearance.

I haven’t, but your post title made me think of this blogger, who had a gum contouring treatment done - this is the before/after post, but it links to a post on that specific treatment. I think the difference is amazing, although I suspect it cost ££££.

Also I know there’s plenty of examples of botched filler, but it takes lots of product before lip fillers look overdone/drastic. 0.5/1ml, once healed/without swelling won’t look particularly different from your natural lips, it will be subtle and you will look like yourself. If you have never had filler before, the product will fade faster as you’ll metabolise it quickly, meaning that you’ll need more than 1ml of product for a drastic difference anyway.

I definitely agree about gum contouring being a great option too, essentially your gum line is moved up so you show more teeth instead.
