Dyed your hair the wrong colour? I found the answer

My hair, my poor hair.

Started autumn blonde but fancied a change.

Tried auburn but it didn't really take, blonde bits came through.
Tried intense copper, and turned into a carrot on steroids.
Dark red covered that by I looked like a ghost
Used colour b4 and got a lovely auburn colour, but a burnt scalp and hair that stank.

And then... For some strange reason tried to go medium blonde and turned out brown. With a green tinge.

But. My discovery is this - 12 effervescent vitamin c tablets. Orange for a nice smell.
Plus head and shoulders shampoo. Leave on for an hour.

And goodbye hair dye!!!

It's a miracle, costs almost nothing and didn't stink or hurt my scalp.

Off to a lovely salon in a few weeks to go back to a light reddish Freya Ridings blonde and away from the box dyes.

It may not hurt your scalp but it will definitely ruin your hair! For box colour I strongly recommend using a colour remover such as colour b4. Vitamin c is extremely abrasive!

Nomummyonlyzuul · 10/11/2019 16:26

Just re-read and realised you already did the colour b4, still though, please dont use vitamin c!

Tinkletinkling · 10/11/2019 16:52

Deep conditioning afterwards, and it's fine.

I thought that too, turns out the conditioner was masking the damage but not actually fixing it, I've found doing coconut oil soaks the best for me, but each to their own and it doesn't work for everyone.

Tinkletinkling · 10/11/2019 17:06

I have quite resilient hair, and will leave it alone for a few weeks.

I have coconut conditioner, will track down some oil as well

What has it done? Tinted it or removed all the dye upon dye in your hair? It can't have affected the bleach though? I don't understand the result you're telling us about (probably being thick).

BoswellsBollocks · 10/11/2019 17:14

I posted back in March about this after I’d left dye on too long and it went black.

I used the vit c tablets and head n shoulders on my hair and it was a lovely rich brown afterwards. My hair seemed to be non the worse for the treatment and some conditioner helped it along...

Or so I thought. About a week later my hair became so dry and frizzy and frazzled beyond belief. It’s just about back to normal now. So yes it got rid of the colour but I ended up with straw for hair for ages.

Nomummyonlyzuul · 10/11/2019 17:20

That's why I wanted to warn op, I've been there done that hair disaster when I first started removing colours, dont want anyone else to do the same!

youvegottobekidding · 10/11/2019 17:23

I’ve done this quite a few times over the years, it was particularly helpful when hair re-oxidised after a couple of days after using Colour B4.

But it does dry your hair out. Condition, condition, condition!

Rubyabbot · 11/11/2019 18:45

Does this vitamin c process remove permanent hair dye or just semi's?

OpheIiaBaIIs · 11/11/2019 18:49

Vitamin C/H&S turned my hair into a witch's broom. It didn't even alter the colour that much - it just went from black to a slightly lighter black but only in certain light.

Glad it worked for you though OP!

AloneLonelyLoner · 11/11/2019 18:54

Yes I'd like to know too about whether it removes permanent dye. I have a lot to get rid of.

youvegottobekidding · 19/11/2019 16:42

Arghh! I’m currently sat with the Vit C mix on my head (wrapped in cling film & towel) as I stupidly bought a light brown semi dye & it turned out an unsavoury, dullish red brown. I swore I wasn’t going to mess with my hair anymore, but the head and shoulders wasn’t shifting it so I’ve had to do the Vit c mix!

I did though add some honey to it, I’ve heard that it’s quite moisturising? I’ll leave it on for as I can, maybe about an hour then wash out & condition the heck out of it, I’ve got some Aussie miracle somewhere.

Alone...you could try it, I haven’t tried it on permanent colours. I’d use quite a few tablets crushed, probably around 14 & about several tablespoons of head and shoulders or the tresemme deep cleansing shampoo works well. Then leave on for about an hour and a half.

MistressWeatherwax1 · 19/11/2019 21:00

The best colour remover I've found is the JoBaz one in the red box, £4.99 from Savers.

I've used it a few times this year after some mishaps - it works quickly, no damage, doesn't reoxidise and I can dye my hair again same day.

Used it last week to take my hair from dark red with a dark purple root back to a brassy blonde before recolouring copper blonde.

youvegottobekidding · 19/11/2019 21:06

Okay, so I left the Vit c on for around an hour & 15 mins, bit longer than I intended. It hasn’t shifted a great deal, but has lifted a bit. I don’t know wether adding the honey made a difference or not, it may of worked better without it. My hair is soft though, but it’s dry if that makes sense!

Mistress, that sounds good, I don’t have a Savers near me, which is a shame as I use to like going in that shop.

mynewusernamenow · 19/11/2019 21:07

It all works for a while, until the only solution is the pixie

lexiepuppy · 19/11/2019 23:39

Definitely don't do what I did, bloody YouTube! I have bleached blonde hair and decided to go pink for Halloween, but it looked awful, stripey and uneven, I tried to get the dye out with a mixture of H&S , vitamin c crushed up and baking powder. I put it on my hair on an hour, when i washed it out my hair was like Worzel Gummidge, and it has taken a lot of intensive conditioning to help improve it.

The on way I can go out is if I plant my hair, because it didn't remove the pink! Blush

lexiepuppy · 19/11/2019 23:41

Auto correct gone mad on my phone.....
only way I can go out is if I plait my hair.*

MistressWeatherwax1 · 20/11/2019 05:19

@06youvegottobekidding I think they have it on Amazon aswell

MistressWeatherwax1 · 20/11/2019 05:21
