How much would you buy my coat for?

mumsince2018 · 09/11/2019 20:29

This is weird one. As a gift my mum is offering to buy me a new winter coat as I don't really like my old one anymore and it's way so big. It was brought when I was heavily pregnant so it was only worn for a couple of months. It was brought for £65 and it's not damaged and has no sign of wear. How much would you offer to buy my coat for if I was to put it up for sale? I want to put it on an auction site but I don't want to put it up for too much or too little! Thanks for reading

It’s f&f so probably £10-£12max

Candle1000 · 09/11/2019 20:34

I was going to say £10 max

HundredMilesAnHour · 09/11/2019 20:35

For F&F secondhand, a max of £10. Although if it was mine, I'd just give it to a charity shop.

mumsince2018 · 09/11/2019 20:36

Yeah that's what I had a feeling people would say. I don't know if it's worth just keeping then!

Agree £10 maybe list it for min or offers over £8 plus postage

Branleuse · 09/11/2019 20:42

id give it to womens refuge, or homeless charity, but you could try sell it on for around a tenner. Unless maybe its down filled? then maybe a bit more.

Or keep it as spare? Who has only one coat?

Mollpop · 09/11/2019 20:44

£10 max

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 09/11/2019 20:58

I'd just take it to the charity shop too much faff for little return with eBay etc

Or keep it as spare? Who has only one coat?

I don't even have one coat - never wear them as always feel claustrophobic... could be -5 out & I'm still in a cardi morning that it's too stuffy & I can't breathe 🙈

FAQs · 09/11/2019 21:00

I only have one coat.

ButtercupGirI · 09/11/2019 21:19

I didn't know F&F do coats that cost that much! It's a nice coat, probably £10 my price.

fedup21 · 09/11/2019 23:32

It probably wouldn’t even sell for £10 on fb or ebay. Charity shop?

DontLettuceBrexitLettuceRomain · 10/11/2019 08:42

Another one who's a bit Shock that Tesco's sells coats for £65!

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 10/11/2019 08:45

Collect plus are doing a thing where you can donate to the homeless. If your not desperate for £10 this is a good idea

SavoyCabbage · 10/11/2019 08:50

I’d say £5.

wildhairdontcare · 10/11/2019 09:21

There is no real market in 2nd hand supermarket clothing. Likewise lower end high street. Given last season many places reduce by upto 70% the same cost could have been purchased new for under £20.

noenergy · 10/11/2019 09:22

@DontLettuceBrexitLettuceRomain that's what I was thinking.
I haven't spent more than £40 on a coat and I usually get them in Next or Debenhams sale.

Countmeout · 10/11/2019 09:59

Well I would stick it on eBay for £20 but it now and accepting offers. It’s surprising what does sell. It’s a decent colour.
I have a weakness for coats and have bought and sold a lot in recent years because like the op some no longer fitted me. Marks coats have sold for 35-40 , Zara for more so there’s no reason why even a Tesco one wouldn’t sell if priced right.
People saying they buy in the sale - that’s ok if you have money at the time of sales to look ahead and buy then not everyone does.
Other people may not be near a charity shop or want to use one. I have given up donating to charity shops after a woman in one looked at me as though I was giving her a box of shit - it was not clothes but I had seen similar items in other charity shops for sale. Now I either eBay it or put it in clothing bins as a last resort. Very little physically handed in to charity shops probably goes into stock I imagine.

amiloaday · 10/11/2019 11:10

Go on eBay and look at completed items when you search 'Tesco coat'. Adult coats are average £17-£30

ilovecherries · 10/11/2019 12:27

I’ve just sold a very similar from one of Debenhams own brands and got £25 plus postage. Mine was also £65 new. I think it depends on size - I find my old plus size clothing sells super quick snd I notice I have some repeat buyers. That particular line of income has now dried up for me - that coat was my last plus size item.

dontgobaconmyheart · 10/11/2019 12:44

Agree it won't sell for a great deal OP and don't forget to factor in the postage and your proximity to the post office as it will be a larger parcel.

We live next door to the post office so I often stick stuff on ebay anyway if it will make more than £5 (after postage) it all adds up. If I think it will make the same or more in a charity shop I divert it there.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 10/11/2019 12:49

Looking at the sold items on ebay, the most expensive pre owned Tesco coat went for £12.50.

FredaFox · 10/11/2019 12:52

Based on the brand £10

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 10/11/2019 12:54

£10 sounds about right. I'd save the hassle myself and give it to charity

amiloaday · 10/11/2019 20:11

No it didn't, it went for £24

thedevilinablackdress · 10/11/2019 21:40

A lot of homeless and refugee charities are looking for winter coats at the moment.
