Nail tech filed my finger

I have been going to the same woman for about a year and I really like her but she's a bit rough with my fingers.

I got my nails done last week and she filed some varnish off my nails and really filed the skin off the bottom of my nail area of my finger.
It's still really sore and all inflamed.
I've attached a pic of it.

I'm just wondering if this is normal and just comes with the territory of getting your nails done?
It makes me feel like I don't want to go back to her but I can't tell if I'm just being a baby.

What did she say? Was it just a one off mistake?

furrytoebean · 08/11/2019 09:22

She didn't say anything.
I said 'ow' and she just kept going.
She is quite rough and has done it before, but I like the way my nails look and have never been to anyone else so don't know what's normal.

I am sorry that is a first world problem.

Stick some Savlon on it and move on.

furrytoebean · 08/11/2019 09:24

Well yeah it is a first world problem but I'm posting on style and beauty section on Mumsnet not writing a memoir about it.

Not normal - this has happened to me before and I didn't return to the place that did it. Find yourself a new nail bar!

ReginaGeorgeous · 08/11/2019 09:31

No, this is not normal. I've been having gel polish applied and removed every three weeks for the last four years and my lady has never filed my skin.

MrsKHB · 08/11/2019 09:33

OP. find someone else to do your nails, that is wrong!
Did she use a drill?

furrytoebean · 08/11/2019 09:34

No she just used a nail file.

Some of the cheaper places locally have electric filers which always do this! Or they get so hot when filing nails that they burn.

Kinda you get what you pay for half the time, I'd rather pay the tenner more and go to someone who does hurt me.

PepsiLola · 08/11/2019 09:36

If you like her just say to her next time "can you go easy on the filing, I was left with a graze for a week after I left here last time"?

furrytoebean · 08/11/2019 09:36

She's not cheap!

Having your nails done is meant to be relaxing not painful! Don't go back to her and if she questions why just show that pic!

furrytoebean · 08/11/2019 09:37

Yeah I'm definitely going to say something.

I'm in the hair and beauty industry, it's an accident ConfusedUsually happens with a new nail file or in winter like now when everyone's hands/cuticles are a little dry. She should apologise but apart from that there's not much else to be done, if it's regular then you need to find a new nail tech

RedPandaFluff · 08/11/2019 09:46

When it comes to minor accidents like this I think it's the technician's attitude that is key - it happened to me at a nail bar in Manchester; it was quite painful and wouldn't stop bleeding for ages. If the technician had said "oh gosh I'm sorry, it's a new file" and actually been apologetic it would have been absolutely fine - instead, she didn't bat an eyelid and carried on as if nothing had happened.

It was only after I left and the cut started to scab over that I realised how unsightly it was - and frankly, you get your nails done to look better, not worse! I emailed the place, no response, so contacted them on Facebook and got a very defensive - actually, it was more aggressive when I think about it - reply.

I never went back. And yes, it is a first world problem, but we're entitled to a petty moan every now and again!

Ha at not writing memoir

Yep that’s bad I don’t get nails done but that looks like a poor mistake to make

Volvemos · 08/11/2019 14:48

Go somewhere else. One thing to make a mistake, apologise and learn, another thing to make a mistake, ignore it and carry on as usual.
