I have had the same hircut since I was 5 (a long time) so I feel the need for a chnage.

Do yu think I will suit some sort of fringe? are fringes passe?

look at my profile pic (Clue, I'm not the one with the tusks) and tell me aht you reckon.

My hair is fairly fine and poker straight, so I'd also love somthing with a bit of "oomph" (to papraphrase my mother-God, next I'll be buying jewllery to "jazz things up a bit")

Gawd you're pretty! I think you'd suit a fringe. Either a full one, or a slightly longer, fine, pulled to the side one.

How short would you dare go? I wouldn't go shorter than shoulders, but would have layers to give you hair the "oomph" you so require

Colour - highlights in a reddish colour perhaps?

IntergalacticWalrus · 18/08/2007 14:30

Will layers give it oomph?

Maybe its the hairdresser, but whenever I hav layers it looks thinner, even mulletty

one length hair is heavier, pulls the hair down ime.

you need fine layers, not blunt steps IYKWIM

IntergalacticWalrus · 18/08/2007 14:34

I'm scared of hairdressers, ime, they are either snooty, twigletty ice maidens with mad hairdos or they only do perms and blue rinses

OP posts:
MamaG · 18/08/2007 14:34

have a perm then

maveta · 18/08/2007 14:38

I agree with loads of layers, a bit shorter but not shorter than your jawline. Not sure about a fringe but if you do want one not a blunt straight one, maybe a swept to the side one would be nice. If you feel dead brave you could get one of those really really short fringes, you have a really pretty face, I think you could carry it off but you´d have to believe it!

If you want a change it´s really worth paying for a good hair stylist, hopefully someone that comes recommended.

MamaG · 18/08/2007 14:41

DON'T get a v short firnge

you'd look like Dumb & Dumber

maveta · 18/08/2007 14:46

try this

IntergalacticWalrus · 18/08/2007 15:01

Oooh, no, short fringe is a no no for me I'm afraid.

It would make me look chubbier then I am already

its a healthy reaction to most hairdressers, IW..!!
i would say layers would lighten it if heavy, it can be done subtley, and not anything approaching a mullet lol

any friends in area have good hair style? someone they recommend..
..talk to stylist first really and show cut out pics you, go through hair swatches together for colour cut...

your hair looks nice and healthy and good colour!

IntergalacticWalrus · 18/08/2007 15:15

it's hard to know what hairstle wobn;t make me look a complete knob.

I'm a bit worried about it, given I have had the smae hairdo for such a long time

oh that site is fab..I want my hair cutting and styling and seen something I like on there!!

IntergalacticWalrus · 18/08/2007 15:34

In my head, I have lustrous thich hair with plenty of volume

In reality, I have hair a la Neil from the Young Ones.

Nbg · 18/08/2007 15:36

I think a layered bob would really suit you

but but but

having had hair like yours and then lobbing it all off for a stupid pob cut, I wish I had juts listened to my hairdresser and let her put lots of layers into it and take a bit of length off.

Do you always have it straight?
You can vamp it up by curling it with straightners.
It looks very good.

IntergalacticWalrus · 18/08/2007 15:39

I';m carp at styling my own hair.

In fact, when I do anything (like wear fashionable cliothes etc tec) that trequires a bit of flair, I end up lookig a nob head.

I jusr want hair that doesn't hang there looking sad.

harpsichordcarrier · 18/08/2007 15:39

gosh you are pretty and sooooooooo yoooooouuuuung....
I would suggest something a bit choppy and layered, personally. but my suggestion to you is to go to a good i.e., expensive hairdresser at least for this first scary cut.
where do you live?

IntergalacticWalrus · 18/08/2007 15:39

I live in Bath

OP posts:
Nbg · 18/08/2007 15:40

Honestly wally, its sooo easy and you only have to do parts of the hair just to give it a bit of oomph.

Your hair looks really healthy too.

IntergalacticWalrus · 18/08/2007 15:42

I suppose I'd soon learn if I bothered to make the effort more often.

I'm not keen to lose too much legnth as I am overweight and don;t want to end up with a pin head

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 18/08/2007 15:42

have you tried essensuals?

IntergalacticWalrus · 18/08/2007 15:43

I went to essensuals when I was a stident in the dim and distant past for highlights. I thought they were quite good, actually. Maybe I could try them.

I just need a hairstyle in mind now

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 18/08/2007 15:45

imo I don't think you should have a style in mind. get the haridresser to decide that's their job and let them do it I say

harpsichordcarrier · 18/08/2007 15:47

in the long distant past I used to go to John Frieda (the salon not the man btw) and I had this most amazing colourist who did not countenance any conversation or suggestions from me, and certainhly none of this showing me swatches malarky, she just used to look at my hair and go, ok and then colour it.
then she would come back when it was done and say is that ok?
honestly, I bet she never said more than twenty words to me in four years.
fantastic colourist though

(if you were closer I would have suggestedmy hairdresser who comes to the house, she is FAB but a bit too far. yesterday I said I fancy something a bit different and she said oh good idea ten minutes later, done.)
