Tattoo cover up

AnxiousElephant77 · 04/11/2019 17:42

I need to cover up a tattoo in order to try wedding gowns on. Don't even ask. Anyway, I need something fairly transfer proof as I don't want to end up buying 20 gowns because I've covered them in make up. Any ideas?

Plaster?

AnxiousElephant77 · 04/11/2019 17:58

I don't think that's going to do it, it needs to be make up.

Dermablend, you'll need the powder to go on top.

Kinley · 04/11/2019 18:09

Are you going to want to cover it up on the actual day? Is this to appease a relative or do you want it gone? How long til the wedding?
I'm having laser to remove an old "stupid teenager" tattoo. It's £45 per session, every six weeks, and I'm two sessions in and it's lightened up really well. Still very visible but it's definitely going the right way. I'm optimistic about it fading completely in time.
(Might just add that laser is by far one of the most painful things I've ever done, far more so than having the tatt in the first place)

Hazardd · 04/11/2019 18:14

Sorry OP hijack!

@kinley does the skin bubble and go weird after laser treatment? How awful is it? I have a tat that's visible and aging badly (it used to be beautiful!) I'm very chicken about lasers and I am debating a black out cover up instead but ideally would like it to just go.

NotAClue101 · 04/11/2019 18:19

Could you maybe cover with a plaster just for trying on dresses, and the. Have covered for the day with makeup when the dress is then yours?
Look on YouTube for covering...seen some good videos that show you what to use and how. Some use a layering method of foundation, powder, foundation, powder etc

Kinley · 04/11/2019 18:21

Yes hazard, the skin blisters and bleeds! In my experience the whole area swelled up and the aftermath is just as bad as the initial laser, with healing taking weeks.

Kinley · 04/11/2019 18:34

These pictures are immediately after the woman finished zapping (white dots) and at 24 hrs (red) Unfortunately neither show the actual fluid blisters that formed between 24 & 48hrs. Each of the dots formed its own little blister.
Horrific as it sounds, I'm due session 3 this week and I'm still looking forward to having it and it fading further! The dots are now skin coloured so you can see the difference.

Hazardd · 04/11/2019 18:45

Kinley you are so brave!!! Thank you for showing pictures. I think I'll stick with badly aged tat or cover up Grin hope your next session goes REALLY well and you never have to go again.

AnxiousElephant77 · 04/11/2019 19:07

No. I don't want to remove it. I just don't want to have it on show while I'm trying dresses on. Yes, to appease a relative, yes, I'm 42, yes, I'm aware it's stupid.

What was that tattoo initially? I’m curious. :)

AnxiousElephant77 · 04/11/2019 19:10

I can't seem to find Dermablend in the UK, it's all American websites.

CravingCheese · 04/11/2019 19:15

Wear a plaster during the try on and then cover it with makeup on the 'big day'?

You could also take one of these 20cm x 20cm gauze patches and fix it in place with plaster tape. It will look as if you were fairly badly hurt (or have a rash) but that's not something your relative could object to or blame you for, right?

lostfrequencies · 04/11/2019 19:16

What's the size and location of the tattoo?

CravingCheese · 04/11/2019 19:19

@Kinley

You're so brave! This looks incredibly painful and I just know that I couldn't let the white dots and blisters heal in peace...

Makes me extremely glad that I never got the tattoo that I really wanted when I was drunk, 18 and on a trip with my best friend... (the main reason I didn't get one was the fact that I couldn't get a glitter tattoo...🤦🏻‍♀️Blush)

GailLondon · 04/11/2019 19:21

I’m having my tattoo removed, this is it after 1 and 6 sessions. Nearly done! It looks a little lighter than my skin as I got quite tanned over the summer and the laser zaps the tan pigment away as well. Should all even out soon.

OP, I’ve been covering up my partly removed tattoo with a foundation from Amazon similar to dermablend, called Dermacol. It works great and covers perfectly, but honestly I would be a bit worried about it rubbing off a little on any dresses that you need to wriggle into :((

Wow Gail, that's goals right there! It's going to be a bit of a long slog but if I get those results, I'll be happy.

Mine was just your run of the mill early 2000s tribal. Yuck! Grin

Op, don't be like that - I understand completely. My dad went stratospheric when he found out but my In laws and grandparents never have - they'd all be extremely Cats Bum Face if they knew, luckily its fairly easy to conceal in formal company. I'm getting mine removed partly due to judgment but mostly that I've just moved on from that period of time and it's hideous to me.
I'm actually not adverse to having a cover up tattoo if I can't fade it completely or even a brand new one in a different spot, but if that was the case I'd put a hell of a lot more thought into it second time around.

I've seen that dermablend make up demonstrated and I've heard it's got very good staying power.

Gardai · 04/11/2019 22:11

I got some large flesh coloured plasters from China via eBay, sort of silicone type second skin thing. There are different tones and sizes available but they took about 4 weeks to arrive. Very cheap.
Google tattoo cover plasters to maybe see if there’s a more local stockist.

AnxiousElephant77 · 05/11/2019 08:02

It's my mum that's the problem. She's going to flip but I can't exclude her from the wedding dress shopping because of it Grin

OP posts:
CravingCheese · 05/11/2019 10:10

You could tell your DM that you do indeed have a rash that needs to be covered (and call the bridal shops ahead to tell them that it's just a tattoo underneath?).

And then cover it with makeup on the big day (which is absolutely possible)...

RhinoskinhaveI · 05/11/2019 10:19

Does the tattoo say something like I hate my mother?
You're an adult why are you so scared of her?

AnxiousElephant77 · 05/11/2019 10:32

I'm not scared of her. I can't be arsed with the amateur dramatics if she sees it.

GoingFullBillFoster · 05/11/2019 11:43

Kat Von D's makeup line provides amazing coverage of tattoos, I believe. I think Debenhams stock it.

ReginaGeorgeous · 05/11/2019 16:29

Where on your body is the tattoo?

I feel you, I went on a family holiday when I was in my early twenties and had to find a ridiculously padded bikini top to stop my mum discovering and pulling a cats bum face at my nipple piercing.
