Really really warm dressing gown

My house is very cold already, even with the heating on, and I’m still shivering in my fleece dressing gown. Can anyone recommend a VERY warm dressing gown please? Or suggest what fabric would be best to look for?

I don’t care what it looks like (would like pockets though), the longer the better. Was thinking there must still be something like what people used to wear before central heating was invented, that’s the type of thing I need!

Why is your house very cold with heating on? I think that would be the better thing to fix really. If you've the heating on it shouldn't be cold.

StoatofDisarray · 04/11/2019 14:49

Before central heating, I wore vest and underpants, socks, slippers, thick cotton pyjamas and a woollen dressing gown. HTH

Onesie?

GinZinger · 04/11/2019 14:54

If your dressing gown is already fairly thick I think you need to layer other clothes under it. Maybe buy some good thermals, I can't personally rate the M&S ivory coloured ones. I think they're a wool mix, They're very warm. They also do some cotton mix ones that aren't as warm but probably sufficient under a dressing gown.
Are you up and moving OP? I definitely find I feel cold when I'm having one of my more lazier days.

GinZinger · 04/11/2019 14:54
  • can rate 🤦🏽‍♀️ sorry!

Moonba · 04/11/2019 16:55

Fleece onesie

CrowleysBentley · 04/11/2019 18:12

I have just bought this one. It's lovely and soft warm (and extra long on me because I am a shortarse). Plus it has a hood.

How about this

LilyRed · 04/11/2019 22:52

I have one by Bown of London, it was a bit expensive but has lasted years, gorgeous thick warm towelling in blue and turquoise stripes. It's a men's xl size and swamps me, I love it! - they now do ladies' sizes Here if you like bright colours, or more sedate colours too.

Rivergreen · 05/11/2019 07:31

I was given an M&S fleece lined dressing gown once. It's far too warm for my house so it never really gets worn, so perhaps try there?

goose1964 · 05/11/2019 11:03

I have one like this but without the hood, it's really warm www.marksandspencer.com/supersoft-hooded-dressing-gown/p/clp60285943?color=PURPLE

PingDing · 05/11/2019 11:11

Get a wearable sleeping bag if it's that cold - you'll look a bit Hmm but it's the warmest type of lounge wear!

ATowelAndAPotato · 05/11/2019 11:17

I have this one that I stole from my husband!

CottonSock · 05/11/2019 11:22

My m&s one is also too warm.

OneOfTheGrundys · 05/11/2019 12:32

Why not go for some nice thermal stuff. Uniqlo heat tech or whatever it’s called. That plus a normal dressing gown/jumper does it for me.

MonkeyGoneToHeaven · 05/11/2019 12:47

I have got this merino and cashmere one from Woolovers - they are doing £10 off at the moment which would make it £69.

I love mine. Feels really warm and luxurious.

Auldspinster · 05/11/2019 13:06

I have the marks and spencer zippy one and I find it too warm. I tend to wear it back to front like a slanket.

Auldspinster · 05/11/2019 13:08

Oh and army surplus softie trousers are super warm and can be had for about 20 quid.

Pollaidh · 05/11/2019 13:14

White Company's thick Velour, full length dressing gown is great

Cornflakesncake · 05/11/2019 13:19

Some thermal pjs underneath perhaps?

afternoonspray · 05/11/2019 13:22

John Lewis deep pile fleece dressing gown. I got the men's one as it is longer and has deeper arm holes if you need to wear thick sweaters under it. Lasts for years and years and is super soft if needed for snuggling DC at bedtime.

Lhastingsmua · 05/11/2019 13:31

I have one from Victoria secret - it’s ivory and a thick fluffy material. I bought it last year, I think they bring it out around Xmas time.

I tried to find it online but they only have this one, it’s not the same as mine which is a bit longer:
