I have decided to try and get my hair back to it natural colour which is a dark blonde so that I can stop dyeing it and avoid hideous grey looking roots.
I used a hair colour remover yesterday and going to a salon is not an option. Can someone please advise on what to do next?
I'll attach a picture of what my hair looks like now

I go to the hairdressers to dye my hair that colour lol! I like auburn

LumpySpacedPrincess · 03/11/2019 13:02

It's a great colour, take a pic in natural light.

HakunaMatataa · 03/11/2019 13:18

Honestly I wish it was nice in natural light, I'd have left it alone. The colour in the after photo looks much nicer. So I had another box of stripper anyway so I've done that and it's now much lighter. Still quite orange.
I'm going to pop an ash blonde over the top to neutralise the brassy tones. Apparently it also lifts up to 3 shades.
I've got a nice deep conditioner for afterwards and some purple shampoo if needed. I'll update once I'm done. Thanks everyone for the adviceStar

How is it now??

GrumpyMug2 · 03/11/2019 19:53

Crush up loads of berocca into a paste with water, put on your hair, wrap in cling film. This will remove the dye

If you're using Colour B4 or similar, it will remove the colour molecules or some other such sciencey stuff from the home dye you've been using, but your hair will remain a reddish ginger hue because your home box dyes contained peroxide. You can't remove the effects of peroxide. I know from using colour removers several times that it says not to use dyes containing peroxide after using the colour remover, as your hair can turn dark again. You'll need to wait or alternatively use a temporary colour. Personally I would go to a salon and get highlights over time. My hair was a warm brown in June and it only took one head of highlights to get it mostly blonde. I've gone back every 8 weeks since and it's all-over blonde now.

Penguincity · 03/11/2019 20:20

Not too sure why you don't want a salon, if not cost I would go if you. Many years ago, I went from black to blonde, naturally blonde. It took 2 days and was similar looking to your red at the end of day 1 but by end of day 2 was a nice blonde and hair condition was fine

HakunaMatataa · 04/11/2019 07:33

I will take a picture in natural light when I can.
It's not as light as I'd hoped but I really dont want to use bleach so it's fine for now. I've got rid of alot of the harsh tones. I done a deep condition last night so the condition is good. DH described the colour as 'bringer' Grin

How is your hair now OP?

HakunaMatataa · 08/11/2019 10:01

Feeling very sorry for itself. I've decided against trying to go light. I'm going to put some lush henna over it and call it a day. I used to use it and it done utter wonders to my hair Grin

Just to add, if you apply a permanent dye too soon after using a colour remover, it will go dark again, even if it’s a light shade.

I would suggest, as another pp suggested to try the Vitamin C & Shampoo mix.

I went from darkish brown to a light copper colour, almost like a light strawberry blonde at the start of this year. I used a colour remover. But it kept re-oxidising so kept going dark after a few days. So I left it for a a few months & got a shwarzkopf colour expert box colour in L9 - the lightest one, like a lightening dye, bleaching one I think. I applied that in really carefully but not to my root area as I knew that would go very light. Anyway it lifted my hair to an unsavoury yellowy colour, as I thought. It would. I then slapped on clariols medium ash blonde 24 wash, which toned it down a bit, but it was still quite warm, coppery, which is what I wanted anyway.

Over the last months I’ve only used semi colours like a medium ash blonde for when my hair looks a bit brassy & tbh I don’t suit lighter colours, I look better with a slightly darker hue. My hair isn’t in the best of condition but I had a good cut after doing all that, but yeah it does dry your hair out.

I do like the colour of the first pic, it looks like a nice auburn.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 08/11/2019 12:06

If you want to neutralise a tone then you need something that is directly opposite it in the colour wheel.

That's why you use a purple rinse to get rid of yellow tones in blonde hair.

To ditch orange tones you will need a blue rinse shampoo which you can get from boots.

Even if you dye over the coppery colour you get from colour remover you may still see hints of orange unless you use a blue shampoo.

Update for anyone interested. I used the lush henna and I love it. Granted it's not blonde but it's not as harsh and luckily my hair feels great now too. I mixed 2 colours and apparently itll develop more in the next 48 hours.
Now off to clean the mess I've made of the bathroomHmm
