Fake tan - the good, the bad and the ugly?

So there seem to be a great deal of tanning products on the market.

Which have you had good experiences with?

Which ought I avoid?

I've used a gradual tanner in the shower on maybe one or two days on one occasion. That is the sum extent of my tanning knowledge and skills.

Ideally I'd like one that is used on the face as well. No point face and body being different colours, that would look odd for sure.

I know there's mousses, waters, mists and such like (Boots website) but don't know which are good and which are bad.

I don't care if it smells like biscuits (I like bisucuits) but I don't want it to stain my clothes or bed linen etc.

Recommendations /wisdom appreciated. Smile

Oops forgot to say, am super pale (think NC10) though not sure if so so relevant as I wouldn't mind trying the properly golden looks.

I've tried practically all of them and the best I've found is St Moritz mousse, cheap as chips and just as good as high end ones

Amber solaire gradual tan - shows up after about 2 hours and then you just top up as needed or if you want it darker. I use it once then top up after 2 or three days.

BetweenTheMoon · 29/10/2019 16:54

I love skinny tan.

Pinkyyy · 29/10/2019 16:58

St Tropez is my favourite. But the outcome with any brand depends largely on the preparation and application.

CooperLooper · 29/10/2019 17:46

I'm mega pale too (colleagues joke that they think I'm wearing white tights under my pants when my ankles show!), the best one I've used is the Isle of Paradise tanning water. I use the green bottle (mid colour) and it's a really nice golden brown, no orange in sight.

I do wear it on my face too and it develops well, I have sensitive skin and it does give me a minor bit of irritation the day afterwards but that's it.

Glitterb · 29/10/2019 17:53

Utan is brilliant, no streaks and never too dark!

Isle of paradise is also great, I am very pale and almost blue looking skin sometimes and both of these are fool proof!

Pooshweens · 29/10/2019 18:21

At tropez every day

Very easy to use and nice colour

nearlyfinished1moreyear · 29/10/2019 18:47

I use this and I've tried every tan going believe me! But if your pale and want a more natural look I'd say that St Tropez is the way to go https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07HGCB8GK/ref=cmswwrcppawdbt11_FJiUDbGVERYXF

AliciaQuays · 29/10/2019 18:48

If that link is the new clear st T then THAT.
I use the face spray all the time

Croquembou · 29/10/2019 19:01

Another Isle of Paradise vote. The drops especially you just mix with moisturiser (face or body) so no biscuit smell and extremely hard to cock up.

nearlyfinished1moreyear · 29/10/2019 19:02

@AliciaQuays nah it's one called Radiant Glow I get from Amazon I use it on my face aswel and it come out nice and even. You can get a lighter one 2

sheshootssheimplores · 29/10/2019 19:03

I’ve used st mortitz and skinny tan and they haven’t suited me at all. Both looked really orange on me.

nearlyfinished1moreyear · 29/10/2019 19:15

I find st moritz really drying and the colour fades quick.

missjoanie · 29/10/2019 23:39

I’ve used St Tropez mousse forever but it’s really expensive over here in Oz. Recently took a punt on Bondi Sands mousse which is considerably cheaper and I actually prefer it. Definitely worth trying.

which1 · 30/10/2019 07:41

It's funny how posters are talking about the same product St Moritz, some saying bees' knees and others saying it's no good.

which1 · 30/10/2019 07:43

And I still don't know which to buy Grin

MATTHEW06 · 30/10/2019 11:48

Bondi Sands is by far the best i have tried....i have paler than pale skin and tried every brand. Xen tan was my favourite until discovered bondi sands mouse. Smells like coconut, can be washes off in an hour (i would leave it 2 though) no patches, no streaks and really moisturising. I use the dark mousse but have tried them all. Apply with a mit, put moisturizer on elbows and knees and also feet and hands just before you do them.
