just thought a thread on oily skin, and skincare might be helpful, i think in terms of moisturizer its possibily the most difficult skin category. in the last 3 months ive had the consistently best skin ive had a long while, been using miscellar water, simple products, aloe vera gel and primer water for moisturizer, in the summer i only moisterised inthe day. i do want something a bit more now as central heating etc is making my nose dry, what are your best oily skin tips?

I have super oily skin, I really rate body shop seaweed day lotion- so hard to find an oil free moisturiser with spf in!

Also, boots skin clear oil absorbing sheets for blotting throughout the day instead of caking on loads of powder on top of powder.

The best products I’ve found for my oily skin are
1 Salicylic acid toner. Used lots of different brands but Paula’s choice is probably best
2 Tretinoin cream (Retin A or Retirides is the Spanish brand) Prescription only
3 Simple Antiblemish moisturiser
4 Kiko face fixing powder- white loose powder

Use oil to clean face and use hyarulonic acid not moisturiser to hydrate.

smallgreyelephant · 29/10/2019 09:47

Non-foaming cleansers: clinique take the day off balm, Dr Sam Bunting's

Another vote for Paula's Choice salicylic acid

Dr Sam's moisturiser is very nice, simple and doesn't clog

Foundation of choice is Nars Sheer Glow: it might not seems an obvious choice but crucially, it does't clog my skin and cause spots. Made huge difference since I gave up on Mac Pro Longwear.

Also a blotting paper geek! The best are Tatcha but way too expensive, so Shiseido Pureness are my favourite. Chanel are OK, NYX aren't effective. I might try the Boots ones!

For breakouts I use La Roche Posay Effaclar.

trumpisaflump · 29/10/2019 13:29

Forgot about an oil as first cleanse! I noticed a massive difference when I switched to oil. I use the Una Brennan Vit C one.

So using oil to cleanse your face? another vote for the simple anti blemish range

Absolutely OP. It seems counter intuitive but I think a bit of oil externally really cuts down your own skin's oil production somehow.

Placemarking for my oily face Smile

CaveMum · 30/10/2019 18:20

I am 38 and have dreadful oily skin due to my PCOS.

I use the La Roche Posay Effaclar range (Cleanser, toner, moisturiser). It’s pricey but Boots regularly have them in 25% off or 3 for 2 deals.

They also do a great suncream (Anthelios) which is non-oily and is the only thing I can use in the summer that doesn’t cause me to break out in a slick of oily spots.

For make up removal I use Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water for sensitive skin.

staydazzling · 30/10/2019 19:38

ive found miscellar water to be great, thanks everyone btw some great ideas. Ive actually found primarks water primer to be great stuff.

I agree with oil to combat oil. I really don't understand the science or reasoning behind it- if anyone wants to explain, but I've started using The Ordinary Rosehip oil (they have others too- Argan oil etc.) and my face feels smoother and not as oily

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/10/2019 21:07

Roaccutane. Best drug ever.

shivermetimbers77 · 30/10/2019 21:14

100% pure Jojoba oil is amazing for oily skin: I read that it is structurally similar to sebum but does not block pores. Cleansing and moisturising with it has massively improved my oily skin and spots.

KatharinaRosalie · 30/10/2019 21:16

Dr Hauschka has a special oily skin oil. Works!

Fstar · 30/10/2019 22:04

Morning
Cleanse in shower with temple spa way to go (amazing)
Toner avene clearance mat, smells nice
Temple spa all clear serum
Temple spa eye cream
Neutrogena water gel (hydro), smells fab and sinks in well

Night
Cleanse with either aldi vit c or whatever trial sizes i have (really disliked tony moly and peter thomas roth as very soapy smelling and drying)
Follow with aldi retinol
Then either elizabeth arden capsules, revolution gentle overnight exfoliator or a sleep mask (like too cool for school or glow recipe)
If i put a night moisturiser on its normally glow recipe

CaveMum · 31/10/2019 08:24

Caudelie Night Detox Oil is amazing too but very expensive. You only need a few drops each night so it lasts ages but is a very occasional treat for my skin when I find it on offer!

bakedbeanzontoast · 04/12/2019 15:34

@CaveMum thanks for the recommendation. Bought and am impressed! I might try more of their stuff.

Fidgety31 · 04/12/2019 17:11

I still have oily skin and I’m 43.
I use whatever oily skin face wash is on offer in the supermarket, normally a clearasil or similar.
I use simple toner and I don’t moisturise. I’m greasy enough .

Chillichutney1 · 04/12/2019 18:42

I have oily skin as well at 40 although my skin has been drier in recent years... hoping for this trend to continue!

Otherwise I just kind of go with the skin type, I don’t really use much to dry it out other than face powder to fix makeup.

I find retinol, oil cleansing does reduce the oiliness a lot when I use them. I use face powder before and after foundation and this helps keep makeup on for longer. Lastly I don’t use anything but tissue to absorb the oil through the day and I find this keeps my skin glowy from the natural oils but not excessively so.

Re spots, my skin cleared up from the occasional spots I got every few days when I started double cleansing. I use oil or balm for the first cleanse and a low pH foaming cleanser for the second.

I also love blotting papers like @smallgreyelephant and like the shiseido ones but they’re a bit pricey. I literally have them in every bag I own, as well as at work. The Boots skin clear ones are ok. They have a small amount of powder on them and the actual sheets are quite small but cheap as chips and sometimes 3 for 2. I prefer DHC Blotting Paper. They’re quite big, good packaging and no powder but very absorbent.. www.lookfantastic.com/dhc-blotting-paper-100-sheets/11207510.html?utm_source=kelkoo&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=kelkoo&affil=thgppc&switchcurrency=GBP&shippingcountry=GB
