Heal my cuticles!

I suffer from terribly dry cuticles and I'm guilty of picking the skin around my thumb nails.

I've tried lots of products for this, and some have been good, but never enough. My top two are probably Solar Oil, but it's greasy, and Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream, which I like but again don't find very long lasting. Do I just need to apply them more regularly?

You need to apply twice a day or preferably more for those to work (I'd have recommended both of those btw) but they will work with persistence. O'Keefe's working hands hand cream throughout the day will help too.

Flexitol do a nail and cuticle cream with great reviews.
Use anything rich on that area anytime you can (cover with cotton gloves you can buy at Boots when watching tv or use rubber gloves on top when you do washing up or apply before going to bed.
Vit E oil from HealthAid is very good but incredibly oily. Calendula cream is soothing and healing as a first step then regular maintance even with plain olive oil.

Maintenance

Coconut oil works well on cuticles.

You need to stop picking and biting the skin though. Make sure you’re taking a good multi vitamin as your nail area usually signals if you have any deficiencies etc.

Sounds a bit daft but if there's a tv program you like, or a film, try putting a cushion on your knee and filling a small bowl with warm oil and just sit with your fingertips in it as long as is comfortable, then when you take your fingers out just massage it in.
