Active wear

Hey I'm looking into taking up weight lifting, horse riding, walking/running and potentially cycling but I've no idea what I'm supposed to wear. I have a sports bra but I've no idea what else is generally considered to be sportswear. I'm not interested in leggings because I'm overweight and they make me feel very self-conscious but that's all that women seem to wear. Also any advice on footwear would be appreciated as the trainers I currently have rip the skin off my feet so I can't wear them.

Try joggers (looser trousers with ankle cuffs and elasticated drawstring waist) or yoga pants (straightleg stretch cotton jersey trousers with a very high, fold over waist band.
Supermarkets are good for joggers. Trespass is good for other active wear.

I'd get a new pair of trainers too. Check if you under or over pronate (ankles bending in or out, wearning down shoes unevenly on outer or inner edges) as this will dictate what styles and brands you buy. I'd go for very cushioned ones too, as they will support your weight better.

@milliefiori, thank you, I'll look into joggers and yoga pants. I hadn't thought about the trainer issues and weight distribution. I'll check my shoes and see if theres any markings and see what I can find. It's all very daunting.

For riding, you need something with a small heel because trainers will slip straight through the stirrups. Jodhpurs are made without seams on the inside leg so you don’t rub in unfortunate places! It’s probably worth trying it out a few times before investing in kit.

For the gym, h and m do good, affordable sports kit. I’ve got a lot from there.

@PurpleDaisies, yeah I don't want to spend a lot if it's not something I take to. I've got a couple of pairs of FlyLondon boots which have a bit of a heel that might work. I think for riding I'll go with my thicker leggings as I know they don't like you to wear jeans and I wouldn't want to travel through town wearing joggers. They're too pajama like for me to feel comfortable to do that.
