I have really dry and itchy eczema on my hands and am looking for a hand soap that won't irritate. Any suggestions?

The only stuff that doesn't irritate my hands is from a beekeeper near me. She hand makes soap and it has honey and oils in it. I haven't really found anything that helps in the shops

I'm watching with interest. I too have the same issue and have tried various hand wash, some better than others but none perfect

Handwash is terrible. Avoid it.
Use an unscented plain soap - they're usually labelled pure.

TheSpottedZebra · 26/10/2019 10:23

I know it's terribly mumsnet, but have you tried bar soap? All hand washes bring out my eczema, but even the cheapest pure soap from Aldi is fine for me.

Lsquiggles · 26/10/2019 10:58

I've seen there's some bar soaps on amazon that are made out of goats milk that claim to be good for eczema but I honestly have no idea. Bars do seem to be the way to go I just didn't know which one to go for Confused

Bar soap has sorted dd2 and my hands out. We just use Faith In Nature, from Holland and Barrett or Oxfam.

TheSpottedZebra · 26/10/2019 11:03

Just start with a basic one while you peruse the swankier soaps?

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 26/10/2019 11:12

Y y to bars being better . DC2 gets eczema on her hands. She uses the body shop soaps, which are scented but are fine for her.

margaritasbythesea · 26/10/2019 11:31

Dove. Everything else sets it iff for me. Apparently it is not strictly speaking soap which is why. What it is, i don't know!

Tryingtogetitright · 26/10/2019 12:52

Dove handwash is one of the worst for me. I second bar soap. My hands have been so much better since using it. I just use Tesco's own and it seems fine.

If you or anyone you know is likely to be in a French supermarket the Le Petit Marseillais soaps are great and cheap as chips in multi-packs. I particularly love the Shea Butter (beurre de karité) ones for being really gentle on sensitive skin.

BelindasGleeTeam · 26/10/2019 13:01

MooGoo goats milk cleansing bar. Lovely, really gentle.

NeverEnoughCake2 · 26/10/2019 13:03

If your hands are really sore, Epaderm cream is great as a skin cleanser. You just use it with water instead of soap. A pharmacist recommended it to my DH when he had a bad flare up and it's become a permanent part of his anti-eczema kit

Dermol 200 if it's really bad. It's emollient so it doesn't lather but it loosens up all the gunk so you can wash it off.

Simple bar soap the rest of the time. Weirdly I can't use Sainsbury's pure soap but simple is ok.

Use gloves to wash your hair - shampoo really makes my hands go crazy.

Sooverthemill · 26/10/2019 14:04

DD uses Dermal 500 as a soap substitute. She can also tolerate Palmolive milk and honey liquid hand wash ( doesn't use daily).

Verite1 · 26/10/2019 15:52

I use Dermol 500 as well. You can get it on prescription but think it’s about same price so not much point!

Sooverthemill · 26/10/2019 16:19

@verite1 that's true. My DD gets free prescriptions though so if you do get them free, worth asking

dameofdilemma · 28/10/2019 14:01

Make sure to moisturise after washing as even water alone aggravates eczema.
Aveeno body wash or Body Shop honey and milk bar are good IME.
