What are the best tops and shoes to go with this skirt? I will need something long sleeved and warm as it is for work, and as we have a dress code, suggestions like trainers are a no go.

I am 5'7" and a size 12.

I tend to think that tight fitted tops go better with this style as the skirt is quite billowy. For work I think a simple cotton long sleeve would be fine, maybe with a statement necklace just for a bit of detail. Shoe wise I'm not so sure. In summer I'd pair it with sandals or pumps but not in this rain and cold.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 26/10/2019 09:28

I have just bought similar.
I have been wearing it with a high necked (not polar neck) ribbed thin jumper (£6 from primark)
And grey ankle boots.

Have had lots of compliments.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 26/10/2019 09:31

Also biker jacket over.

Was thinking of trying knee boots under it but not sure.

Erica Davies on Instagram has a great "shoeskirtcombo" highlights on her profile page she did last week - very good for ideas.

I love these skirts but always wear with trainers so not much help to you - boots would be good too, I'd wear with western style or something chunky and lace-up, though the latter might not be great for your work dress code?

PlasticPatty · 26/10/2019 09:58

The skirt's an arse. Bin or charity bag.

madeyemoodysmum · 26/10/2019 10:00

Definitely a thin tighter fit top the first picture looks awful. Second pic is much better.

Futureplanning · 26/10/2019 10:03

I have a similar one and wear it with either a polo neck or fine knit jumper tucked in with ankle boots.

thethoughtfox · 26/10/2019 10:10

M&S do lovely thin thermal long sleeve stretchy tops that just look like nice ordinary tops. I wear my pleater skirt with one of these and heels or heeled boots.

thethoughtfox · 26/10/2019 10:11

According to fashion magazines, people are wearing knee high boots under them.

Ginfordinner · 26/10/2019 10:18

I shan't follow your advice PlastcPatty Grin

This skirt can't be saved from frumpy.

DragonontheWagon · 26/10/2019 10:36

The first picture is the way that skirt is currently styled to be in fashion though.

Puppylucky · 26/10/2019 10:48

I've just bought the crop sweat shirt in the first pic on the strength of the styling! I think it looks great but I'm far too short and fat for a pleated maxi skirt.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 26/10/2019 10:52

I agree with the pp who said this can't be saved from being frumpy. It's my old school skirt from the 80's!

Ginfordinner · 26/10/2019 11:07

A few people at work are wearing calf length pleated skirts. They are all tall and slim, and look very elegant.

OP posts:
Wallabyone · 26/10/2019 11:15

I don't think it's frumpy at all! I would wear with a fine knit, or a thicker knit that can be part tucked in, part out. I've worn my pleated skirts with knee high tan boots with a mid heel, or my biker boots. I love them as an alternative to my boring jeans!

NotStayingIn · 26/10/2019 11:59

Great find OP, I've just ordered mine online! Following this thread with interest. The way it's styled in most of the photos would probably make me look rather frumpy too so will have to experiment a bit.

milliefiori · 26/10/2019 12:02

I'd wear it with heeled ankleboots and a boat necked semi-fitted cashmere sweater or a silk blouse in a deep block colour. Fitted ribbed sweater would also work.

RyvitaBrevis · 26/10/2019 12:22

If you are 5'7 and a size 12, you could get away with styling it in the slightly "too cool to care" way in the first photo, with nice ankle boots for work. The second photo is frump city.

justilou1 · 26/10/2019 12:31

Nothing too long or too bulky, as the skirt itself adds bulk to your frame. Maybe a lovely fitted cashmere knit. The green is gorgeous, btw!!!

Ginfordinner · 26/10/2019 12:34

I went for the navy as I have more clothes that go with it. You are all confirming what I was thinking. I have some heeled ankle boots, but need some more fitted jumpers/tops.

thespellhasbeenbroken123 · 26/10/2019 14:05

Omg I want one
But I'm fairy short and big boobed and I just don't think I could pull it off!
It would look awful

Sob

dudsville · 26/10/2019 14:08

I don't think they styled it well on the site. The skirt is pretty but I would end up frumping it. It needs a trendy eye and mine are not that way inclined.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 26/10/2019 15:09

I am the same measurements, OP. I have this skirt and wear a very thin jumper or a long sleeved t-shirt with it. All black. Buttttt... I wear mine with New Rocks on my feet! Otherwise I'd do a Chelsea boot if I was not a goth.

SwedishEdith · 26/10/2019 15:27

You need to be tall with no hips and a flat stomach to make these look good.
