Skin test at hairdressers - how often?

I rung up to make an appointment at my usual hairdressers today to find that they have changed their policy for skin tests for hair colour to every 3 months instead of every 6. I usually have my hair coloured every 3-4 months and I feel intensely irritated by this as now I’ll have to make a trip to town (I don’t go in very often) just to have a skin test done every time I want to get my hair recoloured.

Is this a normal policy? What on Earth do they think is going to change within 3 months? This feels very unnecessary to me so I just wanted to know if other people’s hair dressers use this interval or if it’s generally longer before I complain!

(It’s Toni&Guy by the way, I know a lot of people don’t like them on here but I’ve been going there for years and always been really pleased with my hair)

Sorry not had great experience with T&G.
Branch that I go to its every 6 unless you are pregnant they make you get it done 48hrs before.

You should test every single time
My friend had a horrific reaction at t and g and now can't even touch newspaper or wear jeans. She nearly lost her life and still has massive reactions to any form of ink along with other random things

The salon I go to don't seem to do it unless you ask (Independent Salon). A chain Salon in a nearby city is every six months.

I'm not sure I've ever had a skin test at hair salons, only for beauty treatments

Does your last colour not count as a skin test? You had the colour on your skin 3 months ago and didn’t react... why is another test needed?

I’ve never known anywhere do it more than the once before your first visit (including T&G when I was pregnant but I haven’t used them in 2 years so things have obviously changed).

If they don't do a patch test, please please ask. And it MUST be the same colour they patch test as is going on your head
You can react any time, and I can't describe how unwell my friend was. She couldn't see as her eyes closed over, unable to eat certain foods, couldn't pick up a magazine without wearing gloves, kept having more anaphylactic reactions out the blue. It's not worth it

I’m so over this overkill- my hairdresser said 1 client in 6 years had slight allergy. I’m old and I can’t get into town often. I’ve had hundreds of different colours for years no allergy.
