Bloggers overdoing it?!

Sorry I couldn’t for the life of me think of a better title. I follow an interiors blogger who is yet again about to completely redecorate a room in her house which has been completely redecorated twice in less than 2 years. It was only wall papered less than a year ago and now it’s all coming off!
She also did a living room, everything completely changed and new in it, with a big reveal, but within 3 Months it was all different again.
It makes my head spin and I don’t understand the need to change things so much. It should just unfollow but I like some of her ideas. It’s the lack of any contentment and living with what you’ve spent time and money on achieving. It sort of gets to me. I should delete Instagram as I feel the same about the fashion bloggers but I’ve unfollowed most of those

The 'need' is just their income OP. They don't need to at all...it's what they do for a living. It garners them more likes or whatever.

ZaraW · 23/10/2019 12:55

She does it because she gets freebies, payment etc and you and others continue to follow. I have no interest in these people. My Instagram is for travel, yoga and cats.

Idontneeditatall · 23/10/2019 13:09

I know. It all just seems so false, all this build up to a room which is EXACTLY what she wants it to be and then it’s changed almost immediately. It just seems weirder to me than the fashion ones, we all wear different things each day but it’s like this interiors blogger wants her home to be different each month.
I think I will unfollow and to be honest I’m surprised she has so many followers because she’s coming across as extremely unauthentic by changing things so often

Do people really look for authenticity from bloggers/vloggers/‘influencers’?

Their whole business is built on inauthenticity, and on constant consumerism...she couldn’t very well show everyone around her absolutely identical house every month, could she? How would that actually be viable?

I follow a few select vloggers for fashion inspiration only, and I don’t expect them to be authentic any more than I expect it from anyone else who’s selling me something. They know how to dress well and they know how to pick great items, so I watch to glean what I want from it. I don’t expect to be able to match their - heavily biased toward gifted and sponsored - rate of consumption, nor would I want to. But I don’t judge them for constantly buying/using/consuming, because their business model wouldn’t work without that element.

It happens to all of them no matter what they are plugging. Fashion bloggers, interior bloggers, sustainable bloggers, low waste, vegan, minimalism, travel, #vanlife. hiking vloggers, all of them. After so many videos they end up repeating themselves because they need the views and the likes. I can only think of a small handful who have totally changed the topics of video content they now produce but its still usually just the same as all the others.

Idontneeditatall · 23/10/2019 14:12

I guess I was just surprised at the rate of change in interiors. I’m used to it With fast fashion but obviously we’ve got fast interiors too!

If you’re marketing yourself as an interiors influencer then it stands to reason you will be changing your home decor far more often than the average household might. Essentially it’s a live monthly magazine edition, isn’t it. She’s part of the advertising and ‘inspiration’ cycle.

UpToonGirl · 23/10/2019 14:15

This is why I prefer following people on Instagram (interiors mostly) who don't have a huge following and are just really doing it for fun. The more followers the more freebies/paid partnerships etc which means they are changing things as the opportunities come in.

Just being nosey - who is it?

Similar with all the beauty bloggers when they have a must have/holy grail product then next month (or sometimes next week) it's a different one.

Idontneeditatall · 23/10/2019 14:27

It’s Lisa Dawson. Yes you’re right, a smaller blogger showing their house as it is, is what I’m after.
I wouldn’t mind if Lisa was more open about “I’m changing my house a gazillion times a year because it’s my job” but she always says things like “it’s just how I wanted it”, “love it so much” etc then just changes it instantly. It’s just a show home not a real home and that’s fine I guess. I suppose I got swept up in her last room reveal as she seemed to want it a certain way so much then changed it again just like that

She very likely had done it exactly as she wanted it. For that particular edition. It’s a bit like interior design, she’s designing monthly and using her home as the showcase.

You might be better off just searching YouTube for home tours.

Idontneeditatall · 23/10/2019 14:47

I think I’m naive! At first I thought she was just a normal person who liked interiors and did her house up herself, then I thought she was managing to get freebies to do her house up how she liked it but maybe someone’s telling her how to style it!

OP posts:
Idontneeditatall · 23/10/2019 14:50

Anyhow, I’m unfollowing now as it clearly bugs me!

OP posts:
Ninkaninus · 23/10/2019 14:50

Maybe. Or maybe not. It’s not likely that it would be feasible financially for her to outsource it unless she’s making a LOT of money. Plenty of people are good at design - I could have been an interior designer in another life.

dontgobaconmyheart · 23/10/2019 15:13

If she didn't she wouldn't have anything to show would she, or any sponsored posts or any affiliate links to link for new products etc. They're literally just hawking a living OP and any pretence otherwise (and there is a lot) is basically bs. Especially if they have more than a few thousand followers.
