Spa day virgin - what to take?

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 22/10/2019 21:43

So I have hit my mid 50s without ever doing a spa day - probably because I'm fat. I've given in and am going with some friends but am already feeling slightly anxious!! We've got facials booked.

I've been to plenty of spas for a couple of hours while staying in nice hotels but that was just me. I don't usually do the pampering myself thing but could/should probably get more used to it.

Is there anything that it would be useful/vital for me to take? I know it sounds silly. Thank you!

Thanks- that I can do! Just wondered if it was a bit like the first time you ski and everyone else seems to know what to do!

Swimwear & anything you would normally need to get ready (toiletries, underwear, makeup, hairbrush)

They'll supply towels, robes, flip flops, water, shampoo/condit/showergel, hairdryer.

I always find it good to have a bottle of water in my bag too as I often find I'm still thirsty when I come out.

Also a plastic bag for your wet things - I always forget this!

They do provide slippers but I always take my own flip flops if you're going to get wet (you mention facials, so you may not be, I mean if you'll be using the pools, jacuzzi, saunas etc). For me, the slippers feel horrible when they get wet and are awkward to put on. I also can't get past the fact that in most places they are single use, and get thrown after you use them.

I also make sure as much as I can to use a towel to dry off and not put my robe on when wet. Sounds obvious, but there can be a temptation to sling the robe on as quickly as possible to get warm and/or cover up, but sitting around in a damp robe is not pleasant. Some places have piles of dry clean ones in changing rooms though, so you may be ok. Just a tip.

As a fat woman, don't assume that the robe will be good enough to cover all your goodies. If even slightly in doubt, bring your own.

Spare swimming costume if you're having lunch in one with a robe on top. If you don't like sitting in a wet swimming costume.

Take your make up off before you do steam room etc.

Thank you - have a white waffle robe at the ready (am tall too so arms are always ridiculously short on me regardless of width), a bag for wet stuff and a spare swimsuit! Flipflops too in case.

Will have a fab day I'm sure - the strangest things fill be with dread then I'm very confident about things that might worry others!

Guess what? I'm converted! Had a fab day - must make more effort to do more new stuff. First facial, first spa day...
