Is this usual when starting the ordinary products?

My skin care was pretty poor in terms of products etc but always took make up off and moisturised.

I went to the ordinary and they’ve recommended products. Iv just introduced buffet in the morning and thr niacinmide in the evening. For about a week now Iv used them. Today I’ve noticed on my neck/chest (where I’ve rubbed the product down abit) has lots of little red spots. Iv also noticed my face feels like it has lots of little under the skin spots but you can’t see them really. Is this usual? Is it just my skin getting used to it or a reaction and I should stop?

TBH, if you have problems like eczema then keep your routine simple and be kind to your skin. You probably don't need any more products. I'm sure we've all been guilty of slapping everything on, but our skin doesn't need it. Some of these ten step things make me wince; a self-regenerative semi-permeable membrane does not need all of that goop!

If you are eczema prone then probably retinol wouldn’t be a good idea, sorry. I missed that you had it, I thought it was just sensitive skin. I would also avoid vitamin C if I’m honest, it’s an acid and especially at a high percentage (23% is really high!) it could be irritating. I do think a very gentle routine (ie non-foaming cleanser, no fragrance, limited actives) is the way forward, and if you research a bit into ingredients you should be able to find a product that suits you, but a lot of it is trial and error which is why you need to have a really solid basic routine that you can always go back to if you have problems.

getting rashes and spots is not purging out stuff from deep below. Its your skin reacting to something irritating it badly

Eczema I only get around my eyes sometimes. I don’t get it on my actual face, does that make a difference?

Thanks I’ll have a look at that link.

Most retinol products will say not to use them if you have eczema, but I know plenty of people who can tolerate it in small amounts. I think it’s just something you have to work out for yourself, you know your skin best.
