Does anyone else think gap has improved (womenswear)? They fell off my radar for 3 or so years but thinking they may be ok to try again...

I think they're great for jeans.

I disagree. Every time I go in to my local shop, I'm amazed its still open. I used to shop there regularly about 5yrs ago for great quality basics; pure wool jumpers, linen t-shirts, well fitting jeans. They used to do a great xmas launch of lovely cosy jumpers, scarves etc and display it really well. Looked really festive.

Now it's piles and piles of synthetic knitwear, t-shirts, thin shirts. If I do venture in to try some jeans I have to take a few pairs of the same size because the waist and length will vary.

and the constant sales. Huge posters in the windows almost every day, makes it look like Poundland. Online is the same, I have a discount code every day for between 30-50%. Anyway who does buy full price in there is a fool.

I've noticed more synthetics, but that is true of so many shops. Everything seems to be polyester or viscose these days. I still like Gap for jeans.
I prefer Uniqlo to Gap for basics.

MikeUniformMike you're right, synthetic fabrics and declining quality has invaded the high street.

Maybe it's that Gap don't hide it as well as others. My nearest is in need of a refit, it's messy, the discount posters are everywhere. Just piles and piles of creased clothes everywhere, no colour matching or thought in the displays. They used to do great signage and mannequin displays, there was obviously a dept for creative and marketing (no idea of the proper terms in retail!). That isn't there anymore and it makes a difference.

My nearest one is like that.
I get that viscose and similar fabrics are fairly natural and practical but I don't want to wear them.
I don't mind ployester in sportswear.
