Thick frizzy hair - help!

In the last year I've lost 2 stone and discovered running so I'm almost happy with how I look, except my bloody hair!

It's long, wavy and thick, and whatever I do it goes frizzy on top. It's even worse when it rains.

I've googled the curly girl method but there's so many different ideas I don't know where to start. Also I don't want the gloopy curls you see in the photos, I just want my hair to be smooth. I like it wavy but the frizz drives me nuts.

I only use shampoo once or twice a week, I co-wash in the shower and apply leave in conditioner to damp hair and spray a little sea salt spray to define the ends but the top is a law unto itself. If I put product on it looks greasy, if I don't it looks wild.

Any suggestions gratefully received - products or techniques to make me feel a bit better about myself top to toe!

Would you try a keratin blow-dry? I've recommended this on similar threads as i had one done 3 months ago and it transformed my hair which sounds the same type as yours. I haven't had to blow-dry it since and it is smooth and tangle free. Unimaginable before!

Keratin blow dry

eenymeenyminyme · 22/10/2019 12:58

Ooh I've never heard of that, I'm assuming it lasts for a while then?

I'll have to google... thanks for the idea

My hairdresser said it will last up to 6 months if I look after it properly!

I do the keratin treatment at home and its great. I originally had it done professionally but saw some recommendations on here. It doesn't last as long as the salon treatment around 3 months as opposed to 5 monthd but at £20 a pop it's a no brainer. Was costing me £200 as I have long, thick hair and I'm london suburbs.

Only in the last two years have I accepted my curly/wavy hair and stopped trying to tame it so much!
I do a deep treatment of coconut oil about once a month - literally the cooking stuff, which I leave on for a few hours and wash out. I then use small amounts of coconut oil as serum and to tame any wild bits.
I find the less product I slather on, the more manageable it is. Mousse is useful, but only if I’m going to wash the next day as it seems to have the opposite effect on day two!!

Another vote for Keratin blow dry, been doing it for 10 years now and it's made my hair non frizzy and low maintence.

Where do you buy your keratin home kits from please? They discontinued the original brazilian one on amazon and the current one there is somehow weaker, its less potent?

AntCrawley · 23/10/2019 06:29

Sorry to hijack op!

DottieLottie1 · 23/10/2019 09:01

@AntCrawley I buy Chocococo from Amazon after recommendations on MN. I have been using it for 2 years. I had 3 treatments of Keratease at the salon previous to this.

eenymeenyminyme · 23/10/2019 09:02

Ooh, I'm liking the sound of home keratin kits, especially after seeing the price of the salon treatments!

Do you have a particular one you'd recommend @DottieLottie1 please? Where do you get them from?

If you’d rather not get keratin treatment, a very good product is Sebastian Potion 9. It blocks frizz

eenymeenyminyme · 23/10/2019 12:13

thanks @Goldenears1983 I'll check that one out too
