(Partly) thanks to S+B posters giving me interview wear tips, I'm starting a new job in Tech in Central London next week.

If you work in Tech/Comms/PR and you are 35 ish and up, please tell me what you wear to work. I can shop online or in London or Guildford this week.

Thanks Thanks

I’m older than you but I usually wear jeans/joggers/shirt skirt with a T-shirt and cardigan. I have a Collection of band and games T-shirts which I wear with a suit. Usually wear trainers or ankle boots.
I’m a programmer though and we’re not exactly known for our style.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/10/2019 19:51

I’m a lecturer in marketing and PR, but dress in the same way I did when I worked in industry, although I was slightly smarter client-side. At this time of year typical outfits for me are:

Cropped wide-leg trousers, slim crew neck or polo neck jumper
A-line skirt mini-ish, top as above
Black jeans (either skinny ones from All Saints, or Levi’s 501s) with a blouse. Heat-tech scoop neck top underneath.
Midi-dress, although it is getting a bit cold for that now.

Footwear - Chelsea boots, black leather trainers (Stan Smiths, Vejas, Continental 80s), brogues, and I recently got some DM Church boots.

Shops I like are Cos, Other Stories, Topshop, Whistles (only in the sale or with a discount code), WRehouse, and occasionally Zara.

I work in tech/events. Minimalist clothing from Cos and M&S Autograph, Arket, Zara some cotton H&M basics. Greys, blacks, white, blue. Not much pattern, if any. Skinny black jeans with flat ankle boots, slightly long, crisp white shirt with think knit grey jumper over - that sort of thing.
Other things I wear and see often:
Brogues with dresses
Ankle length cigarette pants with a plain jumper and loafers.
A good wool coat

I a digital marketing manager for a fintech company. I’m just beginning to find my style again after having had three children / put on a lot of weight / not taken much notice of style for the last seven years - even though I used to be SO fashionable.

I wear a lot of:
Slim fitting jeans with oversized jumpers with the fake shirts “underneath”. You know the kinds with a pretend bit of shirt poking out with collar and cuffs? Paired with ankle boots or flats.

Straight leg jeans with waist length jumpers with real shirts underneath - so quite a preppy look.

Wide leg cropped jeans or trousers with long line white shirt.

Midi length tube skirts - I have a black and a grey one - with slouchy off the shoulder jumpers teamed with either chunky biker boots or ballet flats.

High waisted wide leg trousers with fine knit jumpers tucked in. Or in the summer, plain T-shirt. I got a lovely pair of petrol blue trousers from New Look in the summer.

I wear a lot of grey, black, browns, and sometimes a block colour. I have two fine knit jumpers I like to pair with the high waisted trousers - one is hot pink and one is bright yellow. They go nicely with a black denim jacket.

I’m just beginning to find my style again and sometimes it a bit preppy, sometimes it’s a bit boho, depending on my mood that day. I’m 39 and the fintech world feels very young. However - when I was in corporate pre-children, I was a LOT dressier in pencil skirt suits, tailored shirts and high heels. So my work wear wardrobe is a lot more relaxed these days.

Hello: thank you so much. You sound like a stylish lot!

Inspired by you, I've bought:

Cropped black and navy trousers. Do I need tights under them?
Black Chelsea boots
Black trainers
Berry overcoat - pictured
Floral midi - pictured
Multi midi skirt - pictured

I am large of nork so a bit lost on tops. Need a v neck, fine knit, no idea where to get. Uniqlo?

Thanks again

Tech here, not developer but similar very technical role.
Very casual where I work. Today I wore a dress (White stuff, plainish blue and white, pockets), opaques and flat Chelsea boots. Tomorrow, dark indigo jeans, brogues, phase 8 batwing jumper. I love the midi skirt, it’s exactly what I’d wear, probably with leather trainers.
I’m a bit older and have spent 30 working years wearing formal office wear until I am absolutely sick of it so I avoid black trousers like the plague.

Zinnia · 22/10/2019 23:46

Love the skirt and dress (I bought the skirt version myself!). Yes to Uniqlo for knitwear, they are doing a "relaxed v neck" style this season that should be good for you.

What colours are you thinking of getting that will go with both black and navy trousers? Might you consider swapping the black ones for another colour? May give you more options on the top half. I have some smart khaki trousers that go with a huge variety of colours, more flexible than black I think.

alldressedupinblue · 23/10/2019 09:18

Oooh, right, so I need:

Khaki trousers

V neck tops from Uniqlo. I'm pale, blonde, blue eyes if that helps with colour?

Could do with another couple of dresses too, to wear with brogues.....

Thank you all again!

I'm in Oxford St. Will post photos of "possibles" shortly.

Where’s the skirt from. I may need it.

alldressedupinblue · 24/10/2019 12:22

@BestIsWest The skirt is from monsoon.

Note: as it had an elastic area waist, it comes up really quite shorter than you think. I'm 5'4 and it's just below the knee.

OP posts:
BestIsWest · 24/10/2019 17:22

That’s disappointing, I’m 5’10. I was hoping for something long and swishy.

alldressedupinblue · 24/10/2019 18:06

I think if you sized up it would seem longer? Sorry if too obvious!

It's S to XL and in all honesty I would have gone Xxl if I could.
