Does anyone else find Liz Earle moisturiser gives them spots

Despite having just turned 40 I’m quite spotty anyway, definitely when due on and then throughout period.

Anyway a few years back mother in law was talking about how she uses Liz Earle stuff and I mentioned I liked the hot cloth cleanser. Since then every Christmas and birthday she’s given me Liz Earle gift sets with various combinations of the products in. Which is incredibly generous, she’s ace. Because I was finishing other stuff I had, it took me a while to get round to using the moisturiser. I noticed I was getting spotty but it could well have been hormones, plus I’d started taking clomid which probably didn’t help. I went back to Nivea soft for a bit, meanwhile the gift sets still came in. Because I wasn’t sure if it was the moisturiser I tried it again, and my ‘hormonal’ spots definitely seem worse again now. To be honest I’m not sure the cleanser is doing me any favours either.

Has anyone else found similar? Any idea what it is about the Liz Earle stuff so I can avoid it in future purchases? Any advice for aging yet still spotty skin? I’ll be honest I’ve no real clue on skincare and very little money to spend on it which is why I’m gutted I don’t think I can make use of these lovely gifts, my budget is definitely more Nivea than Liz Earle normally.

I like Superdrug's vitamin E range. They have a hot cloth cleanser very like Liz Earle C&P for about £4.99 and it's often on offer. I also like their moisturiser which has an SPF.

Liz Earle has changed the formulation over the years and I think a lot of people have found that they get spots from it now.

Thanks @BlaueLagune I’ll have a trip to Superdrug to have a look!

Yes. So does Superdrug Cut E. Have a look at Paula's Choice online for ageing, dry yet spotty. I discovered Paula's Choice two years ago in total desperation. It's fixed my adult acne. Good luck.

Terrier that sounds good too, will take a look thanks x

Yes, I find the usual moisturiser can break me out even though I use the light option. Superskin is much better for my skin but it's expensive. My skin is spot prone, sensitive but not oily or dry. Just temperamental. That said, the base of cleanse and polish has changed over the years and I think that's a contributing factor to users of LE getting spots too.

I had samples of the cleanse and polish and hated it- funny odd smell. Overrated.

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 21/10/2019 15:49

Yep - cleanse and polish and the toner works wonders, but the moisturiser is horrible! I keep getting it bought for me in sets - the neroli one is particularly bad as it smells foul - but choose to use aveeno instead. Or Cicaplast Baume B5 from La Roche-Posay which I saw recommended on here - it's a wonder cream!

Thanks everyone, seems it’s not just me.
Shame as I hate to waste/ not use things I’ve been given.
I’ll give the open one to my sister (or back to mother in law if I can word it so as not to offend her) and see if I can sell the others on Facebook marketplace or similar to put the money towards a different brand that hopefully won’t have me breaking out.

Or perhaps I should see if MIL wants them all back? I don’t want to offend but I do need to let her know it’s not suiting me so she doesn’t spend any more money on it for me! Luckily I only got the cleanser and the eye bright lotion for my birthday last week, both of which I think are ok for me!

I've got oily skin in my mid 40s which is prone to spots. Not had a single spot since moving to a cleansing bar soap! Honestly it's been miraculous after all the money I've shelled out on expensive products over the years.

I still use my Olay moisturisers morning and night so the bar soap is the only thing I've changed in my routine.

AliasGrape · 21/10/2019 18:22

That’s interesting @Richlyfruited - which one do you use please?

It used to be fabulous but it's awful stuff now.

Richlyfruited · 21/10/2019 19:58

AliasGrape I use the Korres one for oily skin but have also heard really good things on here about Aleppo and black soap Smile

Hot cloth can create spots as it’s too hot for some skins. Particularly acne—prone- my dermatologist said. She’s right. I use dove bar or Bodyshop pump tea tree oil wash, then a spray of Liz Earle tonic. I then use different moisturisers as I’m trying to use up but currently oils of life set that I was given a few years ago and it’s gorgeous, even on my acne prone but drying 43 tear old skin

Freaking0ut · 21/10/2019 20:19

@Richlyfruited I too have moved over to a cleansing soap bar and absolutely love it. I did it to try and swap out some plastic from my routine but it has been a good move for my skin too. I love the very clean feeling I get and my skin is looking good too. I like that I can just use it in the shower of a morning. About once or twice a week I will wipe it off with a muslin for a bit of exfoliation. Love it!

I had this exact problem and it’s taken ages (months) to restore my skin. I now use the ultra sensitive L’eau Thermale Avène range. Not the cheapest but can buy it in Boots. Seems to be very gentle.
