Ugg boots- hear me out

I know I know, they are ugly. But are they deeply unfashionable? I read they are making a come back but have seen nobody in the them!

I bought a grey knitted pair years ago, second hand, for £50. I would never buy them now but I actually really like the knitted ones.

Deeply impractical though as you can't get them wet and it means they have spent most of the time in the cupboard.

I'm considering wiping down the soles and keeping them as slippers? I was going to buy a pair of expensive sketcher slippers as a treat because they last literally years but perhaps I should just use my uggs??

And yes totally agree about the cheaper brands ruining them. They were even more impractical than the brand! If that's possible Grin

I have short, waterproof Uggs. I have been wearing them regularly since 2017. I love them.

Bluntness100 · 20/10/2019 10:00

Does it have to be either or? You can wear them as slippers and still wear them outside if you choose to do so. There are no rules other than the ones you make up in your head.

Nat6999 · 20/10/2019 10:02

I have the original style Uggs, wear them from October to April every year no matter what the weather. I always spray mine with a waterproof protector & have never had wet feet, they are comfortable, non slip & still look like new after wearing them solidly for the last 3 winters.

Yes it will be heavily either or. I'm not cleaning the soles up every time I want to wear them as slippers. Simple as that really! You may feel differently.

Really? I wonder if the knitted ones would be as forgiving...I have visions of them shrinking on my feet!

I love mine, but they're slippers, not meant for wearing outdoors (or indeed fit to be seen outdoors as they're ugly af). I don't see anyone wearing them in the street these days, that thing is over.

Just get some stylish leather boots and some cosy sole insoles, then you don’t have to choose between fashion and warmth.

I love Uggs, but strictly for indoors.

Inforthelonghaul · 20/10/2019 10:44

I have had several different kinds of UGG boots, they are not all the suede slipper type.

I have biker boot style that are waterproof and have been amazing over the years for standing on freezing sidelines and dog walking. I have several pairs of the suede slipper stay and like the very short ones best, looked after they too last years. It’s only the fake ones that do that awful slouching thing, genuine ones don’t at all.

The original style are flat inside and offer little support but there are many different styles that have good foot support and are great for plantars etc.

Nothing beats toasty warm feet!

marmiteloversunite · 20/10/2019 11:49

I had waterproof uggs last year and they were great so comfy and no wet feet. They look like snow boots.

Winesalot · 20/10/2019 11:51

They are indoor shoes no matter what Dockers said. I am Australian and I still giggle when I see them used as fashion items. When I still lived in Sydney, I used to feel very cheeky wearing them to the supermarket.

Not branded UGGs, which Australians don’t consider ‘original’ in any form considering they tried to ruin many ugg makers because they thought they could trademark the name in Australia (you can’t as it is a generic name of a type of footwear) but real handmade uggs from a shop just outside Sydney that I have had for 35 years.

But who cares. If you want to wear them, wear them wherever you wish.

princessTiasmum · 20/10/2019 12:36

I would never buy Uggs, there is a lot of cruelty involved in getting the materials for them,, i would see it in my minds eye when i wore them as i have seen videos of the cruelty

chasingseagulls · 20/10/2019 12:55

Winesalot exactly. Dockers did a great job of turning ugg into Ugg and marketing them as acceptable outdoor shoes for the sake of a fashion trend.

Deeply impractical though as you can't get them wet and it means they have spent most of the time in the cupboard. Yes. Because they are SLIPPERS

TurnTheHeatingOn · 20/10/2019 12:55

Thanks all, I've cleaned up the soles they are now taking pride of place as my slippers Grin

@chasingseagulls

Dockers were shockers turning thugs about Uggs!

And they did not even improve on the originals.

I worked in the London office of an Australian company and all the Australians paid out on anyone wearing them into the office.

gubbsywubbsy · 20/10/2019 13:52

Bung them in the wash

Winesalot · 20/10/2019 13:55

Can you wash the Dockers Uggs? I wash my Pre-Dockers Uggs but carefully now. They are decades old.

gubbsywubbsy · 20/10/2019 14:09

I wash my deckers uggs . With care
