Cushioned boots and Brogues for bad joints

Has anyone come across fashionable Cushioned boots and brogues? I've looked at Geox but not sure if they are cushioned of just clumpy soles.

I'm 40 and have hyper mobility I've upped my exercise recently to try and prevent my joint symptoms getting worse and to get generally fit switched from an on my feet job to office with lots of travel so lost fitness . But my joints particularly knees really ache that's just from a brisk just over a mile walk to the station in Clarks brogues.

One foot is developing a bunion so need lace up or straps to prevent it getting worse.

The brand's for 'older people' often make them to wide and I don't usually like the style.

It's a bit depressing because I love shoes and fashion but I don't want to have crippling joint problems as I get older.

Any thoughts? I don't have a clue on budget (usually buy from eBay/ sales cause I'm tight but would pay anything for some comfort Wink

Good to hear skye as I've just bought two styles and one from next.

I'm going to find out some insoles I have and see if they work with the Clarks brogues I have, be a shame to get rid of them all. Found insoles often move around or are to squashy.

I'll report back how these three feel

So got all the shoes, the boots have a lovely fluffy lining and are very comfortable although the higher ones are fairly wide on the leg so may have to go back as I have skinny chicken legs.

The shoes look great with work outfits especially my red shirt but are a little too wide at the ankle so slip at the heel.

All of them feel like they will give good cushioning/support.

I've just ordered several pairs from Tu, 'sole comfort'. I'll report back.

Do the ones which are too wide in the calf for you have any adjustment to be bigger? Also the patterned ones? Unlike you, I have huge chunky calves and even the wide calf boots don't fit me.

Also, so the patterned ones have a zip as well as laces? I find that easier!

Pickle the tall brown ones are proper lace up plus have elastic. Not sure how wide they go but might be worth a try.

Both have zips which is great I to hate having to lace them up every time 🙄

I have knee arthritis and I've always found Fitflops to be really cushiony and supportive. Their styles have improved lately too, less ugly.

I also have these, which are so, so comfortable for walking:

Do you wear orthotics (insoles)? I'm hypermobile and have flat feet this causes knee problems and foot pain. Ask GP to refer you to a Podiatrist. I like Hoka trainers as there is so much padding. Reiker boots are also good. Fitflops also good but newer types are not as spongey. Ibruprofen gel is good on your knees.

Sickoffamilydrama · 25/10/2019 22:49

Thanks wavy I've kept the flowery ones they had their first outing today and are very comfortable.

Blue I have had orthotics in the past even breaking them in slowly I got so much joint pain I gave up although I've been referred to a rheumatologist.

I did try an insole in my brogues it helped with the knee pain but I ended up hobbling home due to foot pain (in a different place to usual) 🤦‍♀️
I'm going to try and find some ultra thin ones Ecco sell some that I might order.

I was just sneaking into Style & Beauty to start a similar thread so thanks for this OP.
I have problems with my back and hip, and I'm so bored of wearing the same three pairs of shoes.
Currently I'm alternating between M&S wide fit loafers; Skechers and Wonders Fly Memory Gel

Fitflops caused me knee and ankle pain and I had to stop wearing them. I'm much better wearing Vionics with arch support and a deep heel cup. Saying that I do have flat wide feet and am starting to get arthritis but the Vionic really help. I can't get on so well with the orthotic insoles but do wear them occasionally with my old boots.

Reporting back on the Tu, Sole comfort boots. Probably lovely for people with normal feet. Not even close for people like me. Shame. I don't know if they were too narrow, or a size too small, but there was no give and felt like straightjackets for feet!

I also find my Rieker boots aren't enough. They are ok, but not for all day. My hotter shoes however are still fab. I'm starting to think I'll have to bite the bullet and go for Hotter boots.

Have you considered dr martens? I can no longer wear the pretty shoes that I used to due to illness, but between Ecco trainers, fly of London boots & sandals and a couple of pairs of dm’s I don’t feel as sad as I did when the stilettos had to go

Pliudev · 31/10/2019 18:38

Maybe someone has suggested Fitflop already? I bought some leather ankle boots from them last year and also got some lace up suede ones in the sale this autumn and, to use a cliche, it's like walking on air. I particularly like the ones with deep soles and think you would find them comfortable. Hope you find what you're look ing for.

I’ve started to develop arthritis in my big toes so can’t wear any heels at all or anything with an even remotely pointed toe and have also been looking for more comfortable-but-nice shoes, thank you for this thread!

RidingMyBike · 01/11/2019 20:27

Can you get to a decent shoe shop and get properly measured and fitted for shoes that really fit? Eg I’m an AA/AAA width and shoes from high st shops simply don’t fit and cause pain and rubbing if I try to get away with wearing them.
It means I have to pay more for shoes but those I do but I keep going for years and they’re better quality so last well and can be repaired economically.

LaPampa · 01/11/2019 21:46

Have you looked at air & grace? They have memory foam / orthopaedic soles inside shoes & boots that don’t look like that at all. I have some brogues which are super comfy
