Make up help

I’ve finally decided to start wearing make up, about 15 years later than most women.

I’ve tried foundation a few times but always seem to look orange, I even had the shade picked for me by the body shop once! How do you find the right shade?

Please can I also have you tips on how to apply make up? I even struggle to apply mascara.

I think YouTube is your friend here. Search for the look you’re after, such as “natural look” or “for beginners” or “quick routine “.

I’m a lightweight when it comes to makeup. I use a tinted moisturiser and mascara at most.

Apply your foundation with a damp beauty blender. Shade wise it can be difficult as I find the lighting in the shops isn't the best even like you after being matched. It's all trial and error though and practice. If you're looking for recommendations then I would recommend revlon colorstay, they have a wide range of colours and I've tried many including urban decay, Mac benefit and always go back to this one it's lovely.

Illamasqua sell foundation samples for £1. Order one of each that look like they’re in your colour range. Their skinbase foundation is fantastic. Can use it sparingly or build it up for a more full coverage. It’s great as a concealer too.
My top top is BLEND! Blend into your neck and jawline to avoid that dodgy tide mark
I didn’t start wearing makeup until I was 24. I’m a makeup artist now

Foundation should be tested on jaw line in natural light.
Don’t use fingers, use a brush or a sponge.
Powder on top to set the foundation.
Definitely have a look at YouTube. Some vids are really good.

This is true, they’re looking at necks now. They’re learning.

Go to a beauty counter and look how the sales ladies have their makeup done. If you see one who looks like she has the style you desire, ask her for advice and always, always see foundation in full daylight outdoors before you decide if the colour is ok for you/ buy it.

And I agree that YouTube is your friend here.

No7 have a machine which tests your skin colour💁🏻‍♀️

Some makeup brands do tutorials. In fact, MAC do lessons... £75 for a 90min apt. It’s one-on-one and the £75 is redeemable on products. Reckon this will be your best bet to learn how to do your own makeup
