what colour eyeshadow for discoloured / dark pigmented eyelid?

Hi all, I'm 40 and my eyelids seem to be a bit discoloured and brown compared to the rest of my face. I am not sure what has happened but I like to offset it with a white / pale eyeshadow.

I am caucasian but I guess my natural skin colour is a bit olivey and I have dark hair.

Browns / beiges seem to make me look ill, greys seem too heavy and dark. Pale pinks I'm not sure about. Anything with yellowy or creamy hues seem to again make me look ill.

What colours do you go for if you have similar colouring or issues?

I presently use a shimmery colour. A friend who is a makeup artist said not the shimmery colour as it does not do me any favours. She said a matte non-white eyeshadow might be good. I was a bit offended and didn't press further for what colours... (I know I should have!).

Any colour tips - and brands (particularly natural / vegan brands) welcome thank you!

Bobbi brown, bone is great for evening out discolouration, maybe try a primer underneath too. X

I am the same but i have lighter and darker patches i use a concelor and a primer to try and even up this is goung to look like a bobbi brown advert but i use the concelor and it is the best ive used.

i would focus on correcting the colouration so that you can wear whichever eye shadow you want to be honest OP, eyeshadow looks miles better over a base of liquid or cream concealer and eyeprimer to keep it in place.

Urban decay eye primer potion is quite good but you can get good results with any primer and then concealer applied with a ring finger all over the lids and then blend eyeshadow over the top

I was going to suggest a primer. I have terrible dark circles around my eyes and I use a primer. I think the best one is Revlon and it's a rose pink colour.

You could try:

  • applying concealer or a coloured base/primer (like Mac paint pot) on your eyelids first
-optionally set it with translucent powder if you’re prone to creasing
  • then apply the eyeshadow as normal

The base will cover your natural pigmentation and allow the true colour of the eyeshadow to show through.

Also I don’t think it’s that certain shades don’t suit you, every colour has various undertones and you just haven’t found what suits you perfectly yet. I don’t have pigmentation issues yet browns with a grey undertone make me look ill, and light neutral undertones with a yellow undertone mane me look strange etc. It’s completely normal.

Matt gold or copper / olive green shades look good on dark lids.

Bronzey mauve

I'd agree that a base of foundation with added concealer if needed will help your discolouration. You'll probably find you need to use a lot less eyeshadow too. Then you can pick out shades that compliment your eye colour and shape rather than having to rely on heavier colours that cover your pigmentation. Metallics do tend to highlight texture and make eyes look older if you dont use them sparingly so you might see a difference if you layer it more thinly over a creamy base with a damp brush.
