meepmoop · 16/10/2019 16:24

Hi everyone,

I'm in desperate need of new clothes, everything has got holes in. I also have zero funds.

If you have a limited budget what would you buy?

I'm not including boots/coats

Thank you

Well kind of depends on your lifestyle and taste but I would shop second hand - eBay , Depop and charity shops. Do you need smart or is it primarily casual you’re talking about ?

lockdrawn · 16/10/2019 16:41

Depends what you need but you could easily get a good everyday casual wardrobe to see you over autumn/winter with that.

Even supermarkets have done great bits as good prices, Tesco jeans are good and only around £20 and Sainsbury's will be due there 25% of clothing over half term to

LuxuryWoman2018 · 16/10/2019 16:49

Really have a think about what you need and styles you like. Work clothes? Go out much? Home with kids?
Sainsbury’s 25% for clothing is definitely worth a look, jeans are great for a start and the underwear isn’t at all bad.

Ohyesiam · 16/10/2019 16:53

There’s a great capsule wardrobe book whose name eludes me. Google ?

meepmoop · 16/10/2019 18:53

Thank you for the replies, I'm a SAHM to a 2 year old and a 5day old so don't need anything fancy just casual.

I will have a look at the supermarkets

Buy basics like Jean's, trousers & leggings from your local supermarket, Sainsbury's will have a 25% off week any day now, then buy better quality tops from places like M & S or Next.

Camomila · 16/10/2019 19:13

Matalan is oddly good for tops - lots of 100% cotton t-shirts and long sleeved tops in a variety of patterns.

Primark do great skinny jeans.
They also do nice cardigans as does H&M.

You don't say what size you are but Sainsburies come up big whereas Asda goes right down to a 4 or 6 sometimes (I'm short and skinny!) Asda also does nice underwear, I've got some great t-shirt bras from there.

Just saw you have a new baby, congratulations! :) Are you breastfeeding? Breastfeeding tops are so expensive! I keep bidding on them on ebay.

which1 · 16/10/2019 19:18

I'd look at New Look and H&M (not Primark) for basics at decent prices. Also look our for member's 10% off with H&M and New Look does 20% or 25% off every now and again.

Buy basics that work with each other.
Eg long sleeved black top, same in white, couple of pairs of jeans, knitwear in a autumnal colour, like purple/red/mustard. A long grey cardigan. Black leggings.
That's a basic wardrobe at least.

Someone mentioned a book before about capsule wardrobes... there are a few but the one I’ve liked the most is called The Curated Closet. ( maybe your local library could help with a copy?). It really makes you think about your lifestyle but also about complimentary colours to try and maximise everything you have. Im sure there must be plenty of Pinterest or Instagram accounts worth checking out however some of them are very samey ( Breton top, white shirt, trench coat etc) while not necessarily practical for different lifestyles. Others appear to be shopping weekly which is obviously not very helpful. One account I do rate is Not Buying New. She has a very modest capsule wardrobe but is very creative about how she styles everything ..... not necessarily my style but very inspirational.

Uniqlo is excellent quality for relatively low prices. As above, supermarket clothing can be excellent, I've three pairs of the same Tesco jeans!

smileannie · 16/10/2019 22:05

I’m seriously impressed that you have a 5 day old baby and can even think about clothing. Well done and congratulations on your new baby.

VictoriaBun · 16/10/2019 22:11

Don't forget to look about in charity shops.
Today I got a lovely long sleeved Seasalt top, and also a nice jumper M &S per una ( Yes I know a few would be Confused ) over those brands but they were both nearly new and the 2 of them cost me less than £15 .

goingtotown · 16/10/2019 22:35

25% off Sainsbury’s clothing starts Monday until the 28th.

PersonaNonGarter · 16/10/2019 22:40

Uniqlo is your friend. Also Gap.
