Lounge Suit for a Dinner Event - QUICK HELP

SexyTimeNotGenderTime · 15/10/2019 12:07

I'm at a dinner tonight.

I've received a confirmation email telling me to dress for lounge suit or equivalent.

What the fuck does that mean?

I've googled but I can't seem to find a definite answer - some sites say its basically anything that's not a ball gown, others says its just normal smart work clothes with some nicer shoes.

MNers, help me! What would a woman wearing a lounge suit or equivalent be wearing? I can't buy anything new. I have some dresses but they make me look like a turnip.

I could wear black cigarette trousers but with what top?

Is this too jazzy?

It’s that space between smart-casual and black tie. There isn’t as much differentiation between them all for women as there are for men.

You don’t have to wear a dress if you don’t like or feel good in dresses! Wear the jumpsuit or black trousers and a smart top you like (I have a silk blouse I wear to this kind of thing) - Just Male sure it’s with smartish, polished shoes. (Doesn’t need to be heels.)

Yep, lounge suit is just business wear. Smart but not too dressy. Dress or smart trousers and top, along those lines. The thing you linked is too jazzy for me.

@Somerville

I have a pink blouse with a pussy bow I could wear with black trousers.

Or the jumpsuit.

Would navy blue patent flats with a big velvet bow be alright with the jumpsuit (it has navy blue in it)?

Bloody hell, I thought it was just a normal dinner. I was just going to wear jeans and a top of some description. I'm glad I checked the email now Grin

I’d assume smart clothes, a bit dressier than everyday office wear. Maybe the sort of thing you’d wear to dinner at a very upmarket, formal restaurant. Pants, a pretty shirt, heels if you wear them, a nice jacket, more jewellery than you’d wear in the office.

Maybe not the jumpsuit unless your organisation is arty or fashionable.

For a sit-down dinner I always choose the option which has the nicest top half. Because it’s all anyone will see of you for 95% of the evening.

Is the top of the jumpsuit, or pussybow blouse smarter on you?

@DancelikeEmmaGoldman I've never been to an upmarket, formal restaurant. Maybe I have, I don't know, I've been to some very bloody expensive ones! I've just never bothered dressing up for them Grin

I work at a university so it's not arty as such but it's definitely casual

@Somerville Hmmm, I guess the pussy bow is smarter but it's also colder Grin

For both, I would roll sleeves up because I have freakishly long arms. That'd make them both a bit less-smart I guess.
