How to wear ankle grazer jean in winter - socks and boots?

Hi! How do you keep warm in ankle grazing jeans? In previous years I have worn full length skinnies and ankle boots, but I am not sure this works with ankle grazer jeans that are too wide and short to tuck into boots. How do others manage?

Slightly rolled up with converse boots and socks?

I'm not so confident on what to do re heels. Watching with interest.

AntennaReborn · 13/10/2019 22:54

Knee highs and loafers / trainers / pumps / shoe boot etc

PickAChew · 13/10/2019 22:56

Ankle boots and long, thick socks for draught exclusion.

Try different shoes and boots to see what works.Somethimg chunky like DM shoes works for me. And deffo socks.

Basically, if you want to be warm, you pack them away until the spring

Or tuck inside calf length or longer boots.

Puppylucky · 14/10/2019 07:18

I'm experimenting with sock boots at the moment as I find that a shape that hugs the ankle looks better under wider trousers

I’ve just gone through winter in the Southern Hemisphere and had this same problem. Cold ankles, wind blowing around my ankles. I had to put them away in the end and have just started wearing them again when we have sunny spring days.

dontgobaconmyheart · 14/10/2019 12:55

Experiment with socks and boots or roll them up - it looks nice with a biker style boot I think. When it gets really cold I'm at a loss though. I'd vowed off skinnies as I love a straight leg but have had to buy a pair for easy dressing in the cold as the straight leg and winter footwear is a minefield.

If they're skinny but just ankle grazers I'd just wear big socks and tuck in as per though to get the use out of them.

Thicker tights!! They can look like socks and keep you warm. Great with ankle boots. Lots of pictures on web sites with ankle boots and cut off jeans. Heeled boots are fine. Flats are fine. Brogues, trainers and loafers too. I thinksomething fairly chunky looks best.

Don't tuck ankle grazers into anything. Ever. They are not designed for this. Ditto cut off jeans.

quickkimchi · 14/10/2019 17:29

Patra silk long johns, pushed/folded up if necessary, socks, ankle boots. I agree that chunky footwear looks better.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/10/2019 21:50

I bought stripy knee-high socks from Lucy and Yak, and calf-length glittery ones from Other Stories. I do tend to wear quite chunky footwear though - trainers, Chelsea boots, brogues, currently breaking in some DMs.

dudsville · 15/10/2019 07:10

If they are wide leg, and if the material is thin, put them away until spring.

If they are wide but winter fabric then tights with whatever footwear.

Skinnies, imho, are the only ones that get the socks!

Floisme · 15/10/2019 07:31

At the moment chunky lace up ankle boots that still leave a sliver of skin. When it's too cold for that I'll put them away till spring. It's the flash of bare ankle that I like about the look but I don't do cold. I'll switch to full length tapered or slim leg when it's wet and wide leg when it's dry. Or even skirts and boots.

maggiso · 15/10/2019 12:44

Thank you for all the ideas!
I think you are right - chunky ankle boots look better than shoe boots or brogues. Ankle socks are too short - unless of the deliberately chunky variety with a fold over. I am short with short legs so the I am still uncertain about the ankle length on me- and too many layers ( boot tops, sock tops, leg, hem) doesn’t seem to work.
Is going back to full length jeans the answer once it is too chilly to wear ankle grazers etc?

I’ve just bought a pair of DMs so currently breaking them in, they bloody hurt! But worth it apparently. They look v good with ankle grazers.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/10/2019 18:38

mustard did you get the DM balsam stuff? I bought the church boots which I think are a bit softer, but the shop assistant told me to slather them in balsam and put them underneath a radiator. It made a huge difference.
