Knee high boots for really fat calves

Cantstoppiggingout · 12/10/2019 16:53

Can anyone help? I can't find any boots to fit me. I also have very wide feet in general (G). Any recommendations would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

Small heel would be ideal, but anything will do!

Simply be do boots in various calf widths, and they are cheapish.

I’ve had Duo boots and wouldn’t recommend them. I bought two different styles and they went baggy which made the zips fail. They replaced the zips but the same fault developed again in both pairs. I don’t mind paying for leather boots if they last, but these were rapidly unwearable.

Didn’t they have a rebrand?

Pinkypurple35 · 12/10/2019 17:38

I’ve had some from both duo & simply be. Both were okz

ElspethFlashman · 12/10/2019 17:44

M+S are your friend here. They do a Curve range now but even before they did quite generous boots. They always do ones which are stretchy at the back which fit most people.

EugenesAxe · 12/10/2019 17:51

I consider my calves to be really big (16” at widest part) and I can get into Doc Martens zip up boots nicely; I also have some by Gabor that I can fit in well (similar to attached).

I once bought two pairs of duo boots, I don't recommend them either. One pair had lovely soft leather but the sole wore within one season. The other pair had very sturdy leather arms even after wearing them for a whole season they were still uncomfortable around the ankle.

dudsville · 12/10/2019 17:56

So, I wear ankle boots.

BentNeckLady · 12/10/2019 17:57

Try Jilsen :)

MrsJoshNavidi · 12/10/2019 17:59

I have two pairs of duo boots. They were expensive, but I've had them both for about 15 years. I had the zip replaced on one pair, once. I would recommend them.

Fatted · 12/10/2019 17:59

How big are we talking?

I can just about manage next wide zip up knee high boots. Failing that, I've always had success with Evans or Simply Be.

Xanadu58 · 12/10/2019 18:00

I'm slightly worried as I've just bought a pair from Duoboots as I too have a wide calf . I haven't worn mine yet so hoping they're going to be ok . They were very comfortable when I tried them on .

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 12/10/2019 18:22

Clarks Mint treat GTX boots - old stock but you can still get them on eBay. They look like riding boots but are waterproof and have two elasticated panels so accommodate a sizeable calf.

Xanadu58 · 12/10/2019 18:29

MrsJoshNavidi thanks for that , If mine last half that long I'll be happy

Craftycorvid · 12/10/2019 18:31

I have ‘sturdy’ calves too. So, Duo I found were nice quality but a really weird shape (mahoosive at the top, teeny ankles - like an inverted champagne bottle); I ended up getting my Duos altered to fit properly in the end - not cheap! Some Doc Martens are OK for wider calves, their Rowena boots in particular. I have in the past shopped in Evans and found their boots pretty acceptable quality and value for money.

TattiePants · 13/10/2019 00:06

I'm about to order some Duo boots (just need to narrow it down to one pair). Alternatively try Jilsen or JJ Footwear although they are German / Dutch so postage may be higher, especially if you need to return. There's also this UK website that stocks a limited range of Jilsen & JJ Footwear.

I feel your pain..... I’m size 10 / 12 with big calves and buying boots is a struggle.

Clark’s are fab! They do extra wide (although their standard, many are highly elastic at the top).

evilharpy · 13/10/2019 10:56

I have truly massive calves, I think they are about 17” (I’m a size 10-12 so hugely out of proportion and they don’t shrink if I lose weight). I get mine from Simply Be. Evans have wide calf boots but they haven’t been very nice for a few years and every style has to have stupid bloody buckles.

I struggle far more these days with trousers as everything is cut very slim in the leg. More places are offering wide calf boots while making their trousers skinnier and I can’t even get my legs into them.

ClutchinMahPurrrls · 13/10/2019 10:59

Check on eBay for Joe Brown's extra wide boots. Lots there.

cricketmum84 · 13/10/2019 11:20

Simply be is your friend here! 3 foot widths and 5 calf widths. Ive just bought some gorgeous riding type boots and love them.

It's the only place I can get boots for my calves!

My Duo boots have lasted for years and years too. I've had them reheeled about 5 times and the sole replaced plus the zip. I still love them but they're looking a bit distressed these days.

BuffaloCauliflower · 13/10/2019 11:27

Another vote for Duoboots. They’re brilliant and mine have worn really well, I expect them to last a long time

Soberfutures · 13/10/2019 11:47

@cricketmum84 wow they are lovely exactly the style I have been looking for!!! Can I ask how is the grip on the sole?

cricketmum84 · 13/10/2019 11:56

@Soberfutures pretty good actually. I walk through a shopping centre to get to work and the floors have been pretty slippery this week with all the rain being walked in and they have felt pretty sturdy. Very comfortable too.
