Would you dare wash a nylon shopper?

Specifically a Longchamp with leather handles?
After a revolting incident with a train loo I really can't use it any more.
The website says sponge etc but really it needs to go in the washing machine or be thrown away.

If those are the options pop it in the machine. If it comes out fine then great if it doesn't then you throw it.

MaybeDoctor · 10/10/2019 15:14

I wash mine in a large sink and just try not to get the handles wet.

watekinslet · 10/10/2019 15:22

Sink is an option, do you spin in or drip dry?
Thanks for the advice

Don't put it in the washing machine if you can avoid it. Wash in the sink, and dab dry with a towel/paper towels and allow it air dry, flat. Maybe turn it every so often to allow air to circulate around it.

Dalooah · 10/10/2019 15:51

And yes, avoid getting the handles wet. Maybe wipe them down with leather wipes?

watekinslet · 10/10/2019 16:10

Thanks all. I'll sink wash and report back.

Yes deffo .. I wash everything .. bags , leather jackets , shoes .. All fine .. I wouldn't think twice about that bag .. I'm an ex dry cleaner if that means anything to my expertise Wink

Ninkaninus · 10/10/2019 17:52

Yes I’ve heard of loads of people doing just that with Longchamp bags and apparently they come out looking good as new with no damage to the leather.

Ninkaninus · 10/10/2019 17:53

Plenty of people also wash leather jackets.

Ninkaninus · 10/10/2019 17:54

(In the washing machine, that is)

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 10/10/2019 19:52

I’ve ruined a pliable in the machine. Handles were fine but the fabric went bubbly.
Hand washing and dry on the line works a treat though.

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 10/10/2019 20:19

*Pliage obvs

Ninkaninus · 10/10/2019 20:26

Ah well, fair enough! I’ve never actually done it myself.

I’m not sure enough hand washing could be done to allow me to happily use a bag that had been involved in a revolting train loo incident, though...

Gwynfluff · 10/10/2019 20:33

gubbsywubbsy Please do an AMA!!!

watekinslet · 10/10/2019 20:48

Reporting back. Washed in a sink with bio powder and hot water, scrubbed with a microfibre cloth.
It's now drip drying and seems ok. Daren't sniff it though.
it was only the base that got soaked in someone else's wee

Oh poor you OP (although that did make me chuckle a little bit).

I’m sure it’s fine now.

Ninkaninus · 10/10/2019 20:53

Also I’m really glad that’s all it was; I had visions of an altogether more horrific incident

gubbsywubbsy · 10/10/2019 20:58

@Gwynfluff really ?

Lucked · 10/10/2019 21:03

My longchamp has been through the washing machine with no problems. You wouldn’t know the leather handle had been washed.

honeylou42 · 10/10/2019 21:17

I always put mine through the washer, and it has come out fine

user1471504234 · 10/10/2019 22:10

Yes as you have found out you can wash them in the sink. I wash mine quite often, with washing up liquid and scrub with a nail brush. Just try not to get the leather wet. I have heard machine on a cool wash is OK but can make the leather go floppy... never tried it though.

Gwynfluff · 11/10/2019 06:47

Gubbsywubbsy I’m sure there have been dry cleaners on mumsnet who’ve answered tips (before AMA). I now it’s slightly differebt!

XingMing · 11/10/2019 15:31

I've washed mine in the machine (gently) several times, and it's come out okay... but I've kicked myself for buying it in pale blue each time.
