How do you care for your leather shoes?

When I was younger, I always used to use proper old-fashioned shoe polish -- Kiwi Parade Gloss mostly!

However, it's a bit of a faff and can be messy so recently I have switched to shoe cream instead. I am not sure though if it is doing such a good job.

What do you use? And after you have polished your shoes, is there a way to stop them marking tights?

Sorry, old fashioned polish here. If they are marking tights, it suggests you need to do more buffing. I don’t do all my shoes - just the more expensive ones, and boots. Absolutely worth 10 mins a month.

Thanks! I probably don't buff enough.......too lazy!

I use old fashioned polish now and again but mainly just leather cream.

Clean with saddle soap and polish with old fashion shoe polish. I’m not so keen on parade gloss for black shoes because if the smell so I just use standard polish. I’ve got black, tan, dark brown and oxblood red which covers most things and a clear polish for anything else.

I really enjoy polishing shoes. There’s something satisfying about it. I’m not so keen on the shoe cream stuff you mentioned as I find it can build up a slightly sticky/tacky coating after a while.

You definitely are not buffing enough.... you need two brushes and then I use a duster at the end too. People nowadays are terrible at polishing shoes I think. My DD7 is in school everyday with polished shoes thanks to my DHs diligence. I revived a great pair of Spanish oxblood shoes from a charity shop We use old fashioned polish - black, tan and oxblood colours. I use clear for my Dr Martens so the yellow stitching isn’t covered. I try not to wear the same pair every day and I get them re-heeled when necessary.
