Searching for the impossible?

I’ve recently graduated to a powerchair and I’m finding myself getting rather wet if I get caught in the rain or not going out because of the weather.

I’ve worked out I need a cape with a long front to cover my legs and feet and also my hand on the joy stick. I’ve found cyclists capes that seem to fit the bill but I’m a Seasalt et al sorta gal and the things I’m finding just don’t cut it.

Sooooo any ideas at all or am I on a hiding to nothing.

Attached is my current coat.

I'd look at getting one made OP. That sort of waterproof fabric can be bought online....find a print you love and get someone to make you one. There will be dressmakers on your local Facebook who are capable of the task...shouldn't cost too much. I did google for you but the ones which are nice are all way too short.

These are plain rather than print but are available in some of the sorts of colours that Seasalt use for their plain coats.

Happy Rainy Days do some prints but the pictures make it hard to tell if they would be long enough

I’d look at getting one made, as pp suggested. I know someone who uses a powerchair who has done that, and his rain cape is a lovely fit and excellent quality. It’s lined as well, so it’s warm.

TheLidoOfThighs · 08/10/2019 06:48

I’d suggest layering with clothes rather than a lining, otherwise you’ll need another one for warm wet days. That’s from the perspective of a cyclist though, and depends a bit on where you live.

If you get fed up with wet feet, google Vaude shoe covers, they are good.

I like the star patterned one DeRigeur found or the bargain Joules one Lido found (waves).

Or would this be a contender?

I'm not sure if it's long enough but these raincoats have zips at the side turning it into a rain cape but you still have the sleeves. There are two zips at the front so you can hold onto your bike while staying dry. Maybe it could work for you too?

Its probably also worth googling Kiu rain ponchos, I've attached pics of the kusamura model but can't link to any site that deliver to the UK (as I'm not in the UK). I've attached pics, they cost €45 here but they're originally from Japan.

Those are clever botemp! The worst thing about normal ponchos is how hard it is to signal. I’ve never found the ‘hooks onto handlebars’ types very successful but that looks like it might be worth a try.

Thanks for all the help folks, I love how you always rise to a challenge. I’ll sit and look at the links later when I have some time but hopefully amongst those links there will be something for me.
