Janelle coat Seasalt

I need a very warm, wind proof and waterproof coat for dog walking, walking around town, walking around the village when we go skiing, watching football matches etc but that’s also nice to wear when it’s cold out in the evening etc. I live in the countryside and last year I had a Zara down duvet coat that didn’t keep me warm or dry at all! Has anyone got this coat and could recommend it to me?

Yes, and yes. It’s wonderful.

yellowsun · 08/10/2019 00:18

Yes, I love mine.

JoiningUpTheDots · 08/10/2019 07:02

Yes, it’s brilliant. I’ve worn mine walking in heavy rain for well over an hour and been bone dry when I got home. It’s pretty long (just below knee length on me, 5 foot 7) so if you have wellies on then you’re pretty much covered top to toe.

I’d recommend buying a size smaller than you usually would though. I’m a size 12 and bought a size 10 which is still very roomy on me.

sandgrown · 08/10/2019 07:08

I love mine. It keeps me dry even in torrential rain

I was doing similar research a month or so ago and ended up getting a Craghoppers Mhairi. It was £51 with a discount code and on sale and it's an excellent coat. I couldn't get past the fact I thought even the models looked frumpy in the Janelle.

Floisme · 08/10/2019 07:14

I can't say I like mine but it's very effective.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/10/2019 11:05

I bought one in the John Lewis sale, but actually sold it after wearing it a couple of times. It definitely kept the rain off, but I didn't like the way it looked and felt really un-stylish in it. I bought a parka from Whistles instead which I feel is much more me, and does the same job.

nothingwittyhere · 08/10/2019 11:33

I love mine and don't feel unstylish in it. The length is the best thing about it, it really keeps you dry. The hood is a good shape too.

Beachcountrysidetown · 08/10/2019 11:39

Is it wind proof? I need to be warm!!

OP posts:
thedevilinablackdress · 08/10/2019 11:55

Yes, windproof.
As ever, I agree with Floisme...'like' would be too strong, but it does the job.

bananamonkey · 08/10/2019 12:30

I bought it for the nursery run, it’s a departure from my normal style (I call it my “full on mum coat”!) but it’s so practical, warm and keeps the rain out so serves it’s purpose well, I don’t wear it anywhere nice but then I have more stylish coats for those occasions.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 08/10/2019 12:33

I love mine. It is warm and dry and windproof. I couldn't care less if I look frumpy; I work on a seafront industrial site in the North and I need practical coats that put up with everything the weather can throw at me!

Airin66 · 08/10/2019 15:48

I have one of those, it’s a great coat. Not the cheapest but sometimes you can get one a bit cheaper from eBay or John Lewis

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 08/10/2019 15:56

I have one for dog walking and standing on freezing sidelines and it's ace. Really useful.
I wear my leopard print fake fur when I want to look trendy but it doesn't get used half as much!

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 08/10/2019 18:32

I have one and love it. Bought it in the Seasalt sale. It has tabs which give it a shape at the waist.

lassofthenorth · 08/10/2019 18:55

I bought one a few weeks ago. Agree that it is warm, waterproof and windproof.

Also agree that it is slightly frumpy with generous sizing, but I walk to and from work in the northern winter. Even though its a bit frumpy its fairly smart (bought it in black) compared to my Didriksons parka and it feels ok for work.

Mind you for three months of the year I walk in the black version of these and change shoes when I get to work so I am probably beyond help 🤷🏻‍♀️.

mimiasovitch · 08/10/2019 21:41

Has anyone bought a new one this season? I'm wondering if the green is nice and bright or a bit more muted.

thenewname · 08/10/2019 22:59

I have one but it is relegated to gardening as while effective just felt too frumpy. I get much more daily wear out of a uniqlo knee length down jacket and a uniqlo heat tech parka which in particular is storm proof.

Wanderingraspberry · 09/10/2019 07:09

I've just bought the blue one, but bought on line so no idea about other colours. I deliberated long and hard about sending it back because it's not at all stylish. I've kept it and I love it, it's quite thin and light (more than expected) but totally water and windproof with good pockets. I'm not sure if it's going to hold up in really cold weather but there's plenty of room underneath for layers. I bought another cheap coat to be smart in but haven't really wanted it as the Janelle is so wonderfully practical.

thenewname · 09/10/2019 09:33

Yes I will agree it is light and warm and very waterproof.

Helenluvsrob · 09/10/2019 09:49

I have it too . Love it. The day it arrived I had to stand outside in the pouring rain and it was great.
Hood is perfect. So happy with the length too. Fed up with my berghaus thigh length waterproof - it’s waterproof but not warm and in a good shower you get wet cold legs 😂

Stylish probably not but I’m not either.

True. On the tin cloth coats bs they were stiff and crunchy - they might soften but they weren’t comfy light and warm instantly like the Janelle.

woodymiller · 09/10/2019 19:33

Love mine. The length is perfect - no more wet thighs where the water runs off like with other brands and echo what others say about the fabric - nice & soft
