What do you wear when travelling?

Hi all. I'm due to fly to Florida at the end of this month. I'm a size 20 and pretty uncomfortable in my current jeans. We fly early in the morning so I need to be warm. What do you wear? Any recommendations?

Hey. I haven’t travelled in years. I’m also flying to the states at the end of the month. I’m thinking joggers long sleeved t shirt and hoody and a snuggly scarf in case I’m really cold and snuggly socks too... snuggly stuff so i can sleep Grin

MsChatterbox · 06/10/2019 20:38

I wore comfy gym clothes today and it was the best.

AnyFucker · 06/10/2019 20:39

Layers.

I wear stretchy joggers or harem pants for flying. Always socks. T shirt. Cardigan or hoody. Scarf.

which1 · 06/10/2019 20:39

Leggings and long top with socks and trainers I'd say.

HarissaPaste · 06/10/2019 20:43

I don’t find proper jeans very comfortable for long haul journeys. I travel a lot and would agree with the leggings/ long top/ trainers combo. Don’t worry about it being too hot when you get there, everywhere is air conditioned and you will barely be spending any time outdoors between the airport and your hotel.

Also, do people not bother with flight socks any more? I always wear them. They stop my ankles from getting puffy so even if they do nothing else, there’s that.

onemoredayplease · 06/10/2019 20:47

I really don't look good in leggings I'm afraid! So that's a no. Joggers, I could do. Any body recommend a particular brand? They aren't something I would normally wear so I'd need to buy some. I live in dresses no matter what the weather. Grin

If you are comfortable in a dress then wear a dress. I usually wear a jersey dress, with plimsoles/trainers & a cardigan

selfishcrab · 06/10/2019 20:51

I wear leggings and a comfortable dress, a snuggly warm cardigan, trainers and have flight socks.
Although when I fly to the US/long haul I've always been given a blanket so snuggle up in that if I get cold.

palahvah · 06/10/2019 20:58

I find trousers uncomfortable for flying/travelling.

Dresses are much more comfortable, and leggings underneath would be ideal for warmth. You can then slip them off when you arrive if the a/c isn't too fierce.

onemoredayplease · 06/10/2019 21:01

Thanks all. I have travelled in dresses before but have got really cold. I will have a look at joggers and leggings to go under a dress.

I can't wear jeans for long haul.

for this summer's flight to California I wore harem pants with a tshirt and hooded cardigan. I have to wear flight socks so it's got to be full length trousers - otherwise I would feel more comfortable in a jersey summer dress.

It can get chilly on the plane so layers are very useful. I like scarves too - even a cotton scarf can give a little warmth and something to snuggle into.

BoomZahramay · 06/10/2019 21:14

Oh, definitely joggers for long haul! And socks and an oversized comfy sweatshirt as it's always freezing.

Also, a sleep bra because underwiring is a bitch on a plane. I still use the one I had when I was BF the DCs Blush

AnyFucker · 06/10/2019 21:14

Hush harem trousers are soooooo stretchy and comfortable. They come up large, so I reckon if you are a size 20 they will be great in a size L.

Honestly, they are life changing things.

crunchy123 · 06/10/2019 21:21

Leggings / stretchy trousers with a long top plus a cardigan / hoody that you can draped over you if you get cold.

Also, my top tip is to take a pair of slides in your hand luggage inside a carrier bag, so that if you take off your trainers but need the loo you can just pop your slides on instead of faffing trying to get your trainers back on!

Karcheer · 06/10/2019 21:21

Wear what you like to the airport, in your bag take leggings/tracksuit bottoms, T-shirt, cardigan, bed socks. Once the plane takes off pop into the loo and changed. You need layers and comfy clothes on the plane as the temperature fluctuates, so layers are your friend. I also take all my make up off if it’s a night flight. Then about an hour before landing I nip to the loo change into something appropriate for the destination and redo my make up, clean my teeth etc.

CherryPavlova · 06/10/2019 21:25

Leggings, a Seasalt long tunic, a scarf, loafers.
Comfortable, hides a multitude of sins, can layer depending on arrival temperatures. Shoes allow for easy on and off when laying down to sleep.
My husband wears a suit usually but changes into pyjamas onboard and gets his suit hung up.
Nobody cares what you wear. Be comfortable.

AlisonS13 · 06/10/2019 22:31

Morrisons do harem type trousers for about £10 if you don't want to spend much on them for travelling.
I wear them like loungewear with a plain tee shirt and they don't 'knee' when binge watching tv!

FeckOffGraham · 06/10/2019 22:37

I wear layers, so I can strip off as needed, but also can stay warm. It also saves room in my suitcase if I wear enough layers!

So maybe leggings, with a skirt over the top, a vest top, a tshirt and a cardigan? Also, bring warm socks for the plane.

Harem pants are comfy but mine are not especially warm.

Fidgety31 · 06/10/2019 22:55

I usually wear a dress and a cardigan for long haul. I never wear joggers so wouldn’t wear them for travelling .
I have worn jeans before but they aren’t as comfy.

Bouffalant · 07/10/2019 06:43

Leggings, vest top and hooded poncho!

I don't care how I look, I need to be comfy. Flying is uncomfortable enough. I've seen loads of people change into pyjamas on flight. However you think you look someone else will look worse/scruffier.

itsgettingweird · 07/10/2019 06:46

I would suggest dress and leggings too. Ugh style boots are the best and take flip flops in hand luggage so you can take trousers and boots off on arrival.

A nice thick knitted cardigan over the dress is fab as you're right it gets cold on planes!

Writersblock2 · 07/10/2019 07:20

Flying to Florida shortly too! I’m wearing layers - either harem pants or leggings with a tank top, long sleeve top and cardigan. Plus flight socks and trainers. And a long scarf because there’s no way I. Hell I am going near the flight blankets!

user1471560524 · 07/10/2019 08:17

Agree with everyone else about layers. I get cold on flights so I wear stretchy trousers or joggers, soft crop top-type bra, t shirt, a warm jumper and a scarf/wrap and bring warm socks. Wore these on recent flight to Australia - tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Grey-Cuff-Ankle-Jogger/134566181

LilyAraminta · 07/10/2019 08:41

I pair HUE or Spanx tweed-ish textured black pants with over the knee boots or ballet flats and a light sweater, topped with a blanket scarf. It looks nice whilst feeling so comfy.
Once I am on the plane, I can pop off the boots, swap them for the slippers, wrap up in my scarf and the plane blanket, pin my hair up and relax.
As long as I am comfortable, have a good book + good glass of wine, and stay crazy moisturized (Amore Pacific face spray and any and all hand creams), I can handle most flights happily.

FleurNancy · 07/10/2019 08:56

I never travel in jeans. Harems are great if you want something slightly smarter than joggers. I adore my Hush ones but they are expensive. Simply Be have some great options. These would be great: link
