Clothes shopping used to be fun? It was easy to spend loads of money on clothes. I've found in the past 5 years I struggle to find anything I like, any fabrics I want to wear, any styles that suit me. Anyone else got this?

It was never fun for me. Most shops did not do outsize and those that did charged a fortune! I could only shop in Littlewoods, C&A, BHS etc. Mind you I used to love the knits in BHS. My last purchase from BHS was a bedding set! I think mum always used to buy my coats at BHS or C&A.

AnnaNimmity · 04/10/2019 15:11

oh it's still fun!

Maybe you need to look elsewhere? What do you like to wear/what age/style/occasions?

I def shop in different places now than I did a few years ago. And wear different clothes.

Agree though, there are way too many man-made fibres around.

Deathraystare, BHS is the opposite of fun I'd say.

I find it fun!

Fresta · 04/10/2019 15:59

I love clothes shopping! I do find it hard to find good quality clothes at decent prices though and find it disheartening when everything I like is so expensive. I like French Connection, Mint velvet, Whistles, Hush, Ted Baker, Reiss, Tommy Hilfiger, Jigsaw, Boden, Monsoon, Other Stories, Cos, etc.

nitgel · 04/10/2019 16:09

i find it fun, i mostly shop at Uniqlo and John lewis, they have such a range and high turnover of new stuff and it lasts.

Floisme · 04/10/2019 16:12

Nope still love it. I have to think about it more and look harder than before but I kind of enjoy the challenge.

Thedevilofsmallthings · 04/10/2019 17:10

Nope, didn't used to enjoy it. Didn't like 'can I help you?' and 'no, everything we have is out'. Never had the budget for the clothes I really liked either. Found some shops intimidating.

Much prefer internet browsing I can do any time of day. Sometimes I have to queue at the post office in order to return stuff and there's the wait for the money to be returned. Other than that, it's much better.

Musicforsnorks · 04/10/2019 19:16

Yes, I too am fed up with it. I used to love clothes up to about 2006.
Now it’s a chore, something that used to be so exciting, to me.
So much sandy tat for crazy prices, including high end high st.

Only luck I’ve had past few yrs is country stores, Barbour, etc.
Love toast but their clothes drown me.

Musicforsnorks · 04/10/2019 19:17

samey tat, not sandy 😆

XingMing · 04/10/2019 20:57

63, still adore clothes, still updating myself, but I buy much less and spend much more per item. I don't think I'll ever stop being interested in fashion.

Thedevilofsmallthings · 05/10/2019 07:02

Love clothes, dislike shopping.

AwkwardSquad · 05/10/2019 07:27

Enjoying it much more now I’ve refound my style groove and re-embraced my love of monochrome and ‘architect’ style. I had a period of attempting to fit in with print and colour and frocks. Not me. At all. Also looked frumpy as fuck.

AwkwardSquad · 05/10/2019 07:28

Have to say it’s not easy to find stuff that I like, though. I’m increasingly drawn to menswear.

dudsville · 05/10/2019 12:32

I'm no longer creative. I left that behind in my youth, but it's not the fault of what's available. The internet has increased choice by a million.

ThatsLongFam · 05/10/2019 12:43

I found clothes shopping stressful before online shopping really took off. I much prefer ordering loads of stuff to try on and sending back the crap to trailing around busy, stuffy shops miserably trying to find something nice.

Having said that, I agree the quality of high street clothing has really fallen in recent years. So much viscose and polyester!

TableNiner · 05/10/2019 21:11

I can relate to this. It’s been slightly better this season as brown suits me and it’s made a comeback. But I think part of the problem is you learn to know what you want and if that isn’t the same as the fashion then you can struggle. For example I only like low waist trousers and jeans but these are virtually non existent. Also clothes drown me really easily and everything seems so oversized. I’m a 10 but can buy size 6 these days. And yes the materials are so bad and the quality often rubbish. And often the price bears no relation to the quality. The shops aren’t doing it right if you go in and realise the things you already own are better.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/10/2019 21:39

Totally agree with you.

DaisyWaisy · 07/10/2019 12:38

I feel the same. I used to love shopping and could spend a fortune buying things. Over the past few years I've found it more and more difficult to find things I like and am willing to spend money on. I've just spent a morning looking around the shops in my nearest city and could find nothing I really like. The colours this autumn are so dreary and fabrics are often vile. As TableNiner says, you realise you already own better stuff.
