Cantu Hair Products

Please excuse my ignorance. I was searching for a sulphate free "natural" shampoo and conditioner and came across the Cantu range available in Superdrug. Is it just for curly hair or can it be used on straight hair to keep it straight??

It can be used on any hair type. It's a really nice sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner - light and moisturising. I prefer it to more expensive brands.

ElizaPancakes · 03/10/2019 15:59

Personally I think the conditioner is quite moisturising so might be too much for ‘normal’ hair (mine is very dry) but the shampoo is great and definitely suitable.

Thanks @DonnaHaywood and @ElizaPancakes. I wasn't sure if it was designed purely for curly and/or afro hair and couldn't get any answers online

Does it make your straight hair sleeker?

Never had Cantu but you could try Shea moisture as well? Most of the bigger boots stores in my area stock it. They have a variety of sulphate and silicone free shampoos and conditioners for all different hair types. And they all smell amazing. Bit more expensive than cantu tho.

www.cantubeauty.com/

It’s advertised for curly and Afro hair but no harm in trying and seeing if it suits you.

PickAChew · 03/10/2019 20:57

Cantu is nice and i use mine on my son's thick hair, sometimes. (My wavy hair went off it just after I bought new bottles, go figure).

It's worth having a look in Holland & Barrett. They stock Dr Organics shampoos and conditioners, which are really nice and come in a variety of formulations.

NorthernGravy · 03/10/2019 21:00

I found it dreadful stuff, full of Shea butter, cocoa butter and stuff that weighs my hair down.

catmam · 03/10/2019 22:23

Thanks @PickAChew we have a H&B so I'll take a look

Oh dear @NorthernGravy. It only takes one bad review to put me off something - same when I'm online shopping somewhere!

Just going by what I saw in Superdrug this morning. I was also looking at the Palmer's Coconut Oil hair range as well??

We have just received a repeat delivery, and they have now added sulphites to the shampoo, will have to find something different.

megletthesecond · 03/10/2019 22:27

I love Cantu. I have fine, curly, middle aged caucasian hair and it's in much better condition since I used Cantu.

PickAChew · 03/10/2019 22:29

To add to cat mam, it's not a good choice if you have really fine hair. It's great if your hair is coarse or has been bleached or dyed or subjected to a lot of heat. You need to leave the conditioner on for a few minutes and really work it in, unlike the conditioners you're used to.

catmam · 03/10/2019 22:31

@Bigfatspiders hadn't heard of Shea Moisture before but see it's on offer on lookfantastic.com

I think that part of the way that Cantu and palmers products work is by weighing curls down a bit, because that combats frizz and defines curl.
Faith in Nature do a great range of hair stuff, have a look in health food shops.

MrsBennetsnerves · 04/10/2019 13:16

The Faith in Nature coconut conditioner works well as a co-wash on my thick, wavy frizz prone hair. Their shampoo was quite drying for me.

gubbsywubbsy · 05/10/2019 17:33

I have curly hair and use it from time to time .. it was designed for curly Afro hair and I don't think you would benefit from it as it doesn't make your hair shiny , just that it's supposed to stop frizz and promote curl .

MustardScreams · 05/10/2019 17:37

I have long wavy (frizzy) hair and cantu does absolutely nothing for me. Doesn’t moisturise particularly well, doesn’t make my hair look any better.

I’m really getting on well with Garnier Hair Food (the papaya one) as a leave in conditioner, applied when my hair is soaking wet. It’s a miracle worker!
