Final interview Tech Role

Without being too "outing", I have a final interview for a role in a Government tech specialist in the West End of London.

I'd know how to dress if it was in Shoreditch, but it's that kind of environment transplanted to the smart bit of the West End.

The women who have interviewed me so far dressed in smart jeans and trainers, but this time it's with CEO and deputy CEO, both men.

Please help me decide what to wear? I need them to perceive me as young, as I'm older than most staff (including them) but still look interview smart. My head is spinning.

Thank you!

What is your instinct? If you can share that we’ll get an idea of your style and then go from there. It would be a shame if we persuaded you to wear something that wasn’t you!
P.s. by government tech do you mean an Arms Length Body of the government or a major contractor or supplier to the government?

Regardless of what people wear i'd still go suited and booted to an interview. Especially one with the CEO. My last interview, for a v senior role, the hiring manager was in jeans and a shirt, I had a navy blue suit in. I still got the job and turned up way overdressed on my first day, but I'd rather be over dressed than under dressed any day.

@Thinkle I was thinking cream silk shirt outside wide leg trousers.

@WhoKnewBeefStew they advise start ups on how to access national government.

Sounds very cool. With the right striking Accessories that could be a really balanced outfit

WhoKnewBeefStew · 30/09/2019 17:49

Sounds like a really amazing opportunity, I'd go smart and trendy. Maybe a pair of wide leg, bright (I've got a red pair I love) coloured trouser with a long sleeved blouse, and some heels?

Peony99 · 30/09/2019 17:54

I'd do a cool but smart dress (something from Cos perhaps? I know it's marmite) , good shoes, and great accessories.

Totally disagree with PP's advice to turn up suited and boooted. You want to show that you get their culture and attitude, and if you're corporate-smart you might not look like the right fit.

(I work in comms not tech, but it's a similar industry for fashion choices I think)

Thanks for all this great feedback: I'm glad to hear I don't need to go in a suit!

Accessories: snakeskin satchel and flat black boots?
