Any dermatologists here?

I've had this issue with the skin around my nose being red and spotty for years.
Initially caused by a steroid cream that was prescribed for dry skin in the crease of my nose, it flared up really badly into a dermatitis. Now thats gone (I think) I'm left with this redness that's ok some days and quite bad on others.
I've tried all sorts of topical creams from the gp, using oils to wash with, I don't wear make up or use any creams (they make it worse) . Nothing and it still won't go away.
I have been referred to see a dermatologist in November to hopefully get to bottom of it. But whilst I wait, anyone here know what it could be or had similar?
I'm at the end of my tether with it.

Any dermatologists here?

My thoughts would be either something fungal - try canesten

Or peri oral dermatitis, which I have, and sls free shampoo and fluoride free shampoo have helped. Also sebhoreic dermatitis, try a toner with salicylic acid in, eg the clean and clear one.

Has the GP suggested these though?

See we thought peri oral dermatitis (brought on by the steroid cream), and for the past 3 years we've been treating it as such with metronidazole cream but it only takes it away for a week or so then comes back. Also tried naseptin (sp?) As they thought it was a bacteria inside my nose, that seemed to work for a week but then as usual it came back. 🙄
Like most things I used. Seems to be ok for a week or two and I'm elated thinking it's worked only for it to come back Sad
I haven't tried those shampoos, I'm really careful what I put on my skin but didn't think as far as a shampoo so will try that Smile thanks.
I wouldn't mind so much if I could wear making up to cover it but I'm worried that it will only make it worse so I wake up each day hoping it won't be too bad as I just have to go bare faced all the time.
So frustrating.

Just another thought, DH gets rosacea which doesn’t respond to normal rosacea treatment, but does keep under control with Selsun shampoo (behind the counter) or Head and shoulders clinical strength has the same active ingredient.
There are a few people online who say it works and no one really knows why.
Might be worth a go in case yours is similar.

Do anti histamines make a dent in it OP? Have you seen a real life dermatologist? Might be worth a crack. It looks so similar to the eczema I get sometimes between my fingers, I find moisturising with oils helpful and using the child's farm moisturiser that everyone raves about doe baby eczema. Obviously not a high level recommendation but it does work better for me than any 'medicated' thing I've tried that is not steroids.

Could be seborrheic dermatitis. See here. As a pp said it can be treated with anti-dandruff/yeast treatments like selsun, however you should treat the scalp too.

DISCLAIMER: not a derm, although have done a dermatology job (as a junior doctor) in the past.

If it is peri-oral dermatitis - (looks like a VERY mild version if so) then the treatment that clears it for me is a 3 month course of Tetralysal (Lymecycline).

I had it on and off for years - it came on when i was pregnant 21 years ago. The GP would prescribe steroids but that made it worse after an initial clearing. Then a short course of antibiotics. Eventually i was referred to a consultant Dermatologist at the hospital who prescribed me the 3 months course. He said that if it came back then I was to request the same from my GP.

It did recur maybe every 2 years or so - but (touch wood) nothing now for 5 years.

Is it itchy? Little wet spots which pop up from nowhere?

Hi all sorry I've just seen these.
To answer some questions;
I actually take antihistamines daily atm (weed pollen allergy) and they've made no difference and I am booked in to see a dermatologist in November.
I've never heard of those shampoos so defo worth a try!
It can be a little itchy and I get small white heads on the area quite often too.

I did look up seborrheic dermatitis and it's seems similar to that.. it's just finding treatment that works for it 🙄
