Hair loss making me feel so anxious and depressed

Pic of my one week hair shed included. I've never seen anyone else shed as much as I do. I don't think I'll have a head of hair by the time I reach 30. Anyone else experience this?

Take liquid iron supplements RELIGIOUSLY twice a day along with a source of natural vitamin C like kiwifruit and orange so it absorbs. Preferably don't use shampoo - look into using natural products like shikakai/aritha powders.

I second iron supplements as I'm anaemic and earlier in the year my hair was shedding like crazy.
I managed to halt it by taking floradix and feroglobin tablets as regular iron supplements irritate my stomach terribly.
I take the iron with a vitamin c effervescent tablet first thing on an empty stomach, and another at the end of the day two hours after food.
Biotin, silica, vitamins d3 and b vits have helped too, and I've just started taking kelp tablets to see if they are any good.
I also take omega fish oils to help my scalp and skin as well.

Topical treatments include castor and coconut oil as overnight conditioning treatments, then washed off the next day.
I also treat my hair gently, try to gently brush at night, and use sponge curlers at night instead of straighteners.

It's still a work in progress, but my hair is shiny, healthy looking and my nails grow super fast and are very strong.

If thats your hair from a week, then I dont think its too bad. Remember youre supposed to lose 100 hair per day on average. Thats actually quite a lot.

Mummybares · 29/09/2019 07:43

I had that into my 20s with anaemia.
I take b12 oral spray from amazon and liquid iron with orange juice.
I saw new babe hair in 2 or 3 months. Castor oil and coconut oil help a lot.

You can buy skin hair n nails vitamins in supermarket brand is the same as leading brand.

Please go see your GP and get blood work done before taking any supplements. For all you know your hair loss is a symptom of something else, to determine hair growth they need to know your ferritin levels before supplementing with iron. Biotin (in practically all hair and nails vitamins) interferes lab blood tests (always mention you're taking them so that they're aware).

princessTiasmum · 29/09/2019 08:01

It depends on why your hair is falling out what treatment you use.mine has been falling out for months.maybe stress otiginally.then went on HRT then it fell out even more got bald patches noe.tried all these supplements.biotin is making the remains hair grow but no new hair.just got some kelp.going to try that.but going to a dermatologist next week to try to find the reason.without a cause you could be wasting your time and money.I have spent hundreds on vitamins.shampoos.sprays etc.nothing has worked for.me.hope you ge t some results

princessTiasmum · 29/09/2019 08:04

Op.as above advice see your go first

princessTiasmum · 29/09/2019 08:07

Oops sorry GP

valleysareus · 29/09/2019 08:08

I'm going through the exact same thing. It's shocking how much hair I am actually losing. Booked to go see the doctor in a couple of weeks as can't get an earlier appointment. Book in with your GP and go from there.

Mummybares · 29/09/2019 09:09

Yeah can be thyroid or pcos too..

princessTiasmum · 29/09/2019 13:14

Just a word of warning though,be careful with iron supplements, not everyone is anaemic and needs iron, i have an overload of iron so not that with me and had thyroid tests, all normal, and that hair from a week actually looks quite a lot to me
I never saw much hair in the plughole or on my pillow etc, but it has gone, bit by bit

Get bloods if you’ve not in a while. Very important before too much falls out if there is some supplement you can take on getting the results to keep what you’ve got left from coming out!
My gp wasn’t in the least interested. I’d had bloods done six months prior. It was falling out in handfuls in the shower. I showed him how much hair, a doggy poo sized bag nearly full in a month, and he wasnt interested. I now have lost a third of my hair. I’m on all the vitamins I was on before- iron, folic, b2 from gp. Centrum and d3 I buy myself. It was my age that caused this and I hate it. Makes me feel ugly. My hair was my crowning glory. Now it just gets me down. Or rather the lack of it does. I go for acupuncture and it helps for about two weeks then it starts again. Sigh. I don’t want to take hormones. I hate getting old!!!!

Another one agreeing that blood tests are needed. My GP referred me to a dermatologist as my hair was thinning so much. The GP had done bloods and said they were normal. The dermatologist said that my ferritin levels weren’t sufficient for hair health/growth and my vit D was very low. She put me on ferrous fumerate tablets (125 mg twice a day) and super high vit D tablets (2 each month for 3 months). I’m still on the ferrous fumerate tablets 4 years later. After about a year my hair stopped shedding and gradually stopped breaking off and feeling so brittle. My hair has always been very fine and thin but it is no longer see through. I was so depressed and lost all my confidence when it was at its worst though. I had taken feroglobin for ages but it clearly needed something stronger than an over the counter supplement.

Do go to your GP and ask for a print out of the blood test results. If your ferritin is under 70 that is (according to the dermatologist I saw) too low to support hair growth/health). She said it needed to be over this and as near to 100 as possible.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I'll be getting some tests done.
