High end jewellery

I'm approaching a significant birthday and thinking about asking my DH to buy me a classic piece of jewellery, possibly an eternity ring. He'll have a decent budget, up to £2k.

Where would you shop for ideas? I'm not particularly fixed on diamonds, I'd like something with a bit of colour.

My friend's the jeweller at www.oaklandjewellery.com and she makes some beautiful pieces. Might be worth a look?

I like Richard Ogden

I wouldn't go for anything branded. You'll pay over the odds and things like Links/Tiffany often date unless youre going for the £10k plus pieces.

Go visit some independents, some vintage places- try on some jewellery and hopefully find something you love without spending over the odds on new bullion.

I'd have something bespoke made rather than buying branded. You'll get much more for your money as well as better quality.

I get a lot of jewellery from London Rocks in Hatton Garden. Everything is made by hand and they do a lot of bespoke work. Karl the owner made me some stunning earrings which we designed together. Their prices are very reasonable and they're master craftsmen. And very friendly, honest and approachable.

Don't buy new. Much of what your husband will be paying will be tax. Also, I find that antique jewellery is often far better made and more individual than run-of-the-mill modern jewellery.

Find an old-fashioned family Juler who really knows his or her trade and look for something from the Edwardian period backwards.
My personal favourite is Georgian jewellery. It really is a case of once bitten forever smitten.

Damn you autocorrect! I meant jeweller, of course, not Juler (whatever that might be!).

Paul Mark Hatton has made me lots of beautiful pieces over the last 15 years, including my engagement and wedding rings. He is really fair with pricing and his work is truly beautiful and timeless. Really can't recommend him more highly www.paulhattonfinejewellery.com
