Dear god, please tell me someone has had success with getting rid of jawline acne.

I turn 40 in a few months, and have been blessed with painful cystic acne for months now. Probably since around Christmas.
I think it’s hormonal but not prepared to go on the pill as my cycles are steady.

I’ve tried spearmint tea, bioderma sebium, cetaphil, mario badescu drying lotion, sudocrem, jojoba oil....

Any tried and tested miracle cures?

I've been told that acne around the jawline may be linked to thyroid problems. (Was true for me).
Is your thyroid OK?

Ninkaninus · 27/09/2019 21:49

Low carbing works wonders.

Soola · 27/09/2019 22:11

Rugby benzoyl peroxide.

Samb79 · 27/09/2019 22:13

Not sure about thyroid to be honest, But feel like I can’t justify a Drs appt just to check. I was attempting low carbing but I am really rubbish at it!

I had jawline acne for ages; tried various different pills, and antibiotics, but the thing that finally worked was Acnecide benzoyl peroxide cream. I wasn’t expecting it to work as none of the other brands of benzoyl peroxide had, but it did. I think it might be because it seems quite moisturising so you don’t get that horrible flaky red skin, and so keep using it more religiously. It does bleach towels though! I originally got it on prescription but you can also buy it over the counter in pharmacies.

Low ph cleansing, no over exfoliating (chemical or physical), benzoyl peroxide and plenty of hydrating stuff to counteract the drying effect of the BP.

Samb79 · 29/09/2019 09:36

Thanks for the advice, I’ve got myself some acnecide from the pharmacy which I started last night. Fingers crossed it does something!

I don’t exfoliate other than removing cleanser with Muslin cloths and I don’t scrub. What is low ph cleansing?

The idea is that your skin is slightly acidic and needs to maintain that balance. If you annoy your skin by using products with a high ph you damage the balance and the skin is more likely to react with breakouts. Cleansers are one of those things that can have a high ph and thus every day aggravate your skin.

I think Trinny Woodall suffered with serious acne problems inbthe past. Her skin looks lovely now. Perhaps you could contact her to see what she did?

MoltonSilver · 29/09/2019 11:50

Be aware with the acnecede .... It can bleach your towels and bedding. Ds gets it everywhere Sad.

Soola · 29/09/2019 12:07

Sorry to say but Acnecide did nothing for me despite the same ingredients as other brands.

Panoxyl 10 gel was the best but they discontinued it.

Nothing has come close to it in years not even the Acnecide which was widely touted on the internet as being the same.

Then a poster on here mentioned the Rugby one and I would say it is near identical to Panoxyl.

Troton · 29/09/2019 12:36

Do you use the 5 or 10 percent rugby one?

Samb79 · 29/09/2019 12:57

I’ve just been reading the comments on trinny’s page and one of her health advisors recommends sage complex tablets. Has anyone tried these?
Primarily for peri menopause symptoms, I’m thinking that as this is likely to be my hormones out of whack they might help. What do you think?

OP posts:
Soola · 29/09/2019 13:41

@Troton I bought the purple 10 gel one. Not the lotion one.

My skin can easily take that strength but if you’re not used to it start off with a lower strength such as a 2.5 or 5.

You must thoroughly rub it in. I leave it to fully absorb before putting moisturiser over the top.
