I'm trying to find a good face cream or anything really to put on before make up that will reduce oily skin.

I have oily skin . I don’t use any moisturisers or anything . Bit under my foundation I use a bb cream , just a maybelliene one. It helps me be less shiny !

Oily skin needs oil. What's your cleansing routine?

Whatsthesmell · 27/09/2019 19:31

@Shmithecat2 it's not for me. It's for a friend. She is always struggling and I wanted to get her something for Christmas to help her not feel like she's dipped her face in grease or like her face is really shiny (her words)

Clinique gel moisturiser, the yellow one in the square bottle.

I use Neil's Yard brand, Yarrow and Comfrey face cream. It's expensive but lasts absolutely months and months. I have a very oily t-zone and it works really well at moisturising my skin and mattifying. I've just loads of creams but that one has been the best for me!

Biggest tube of Benefit's Porefessional you can get your hands on. Job done.

Luaa · 28/09/2019 07:25

I don't find porefessional does anything for my shiny t zone. I have the mattifying one because I thought that would be better, but is the original more effective?

PippiDeLena · 28/09/2019 13:51

If your friend uses a product that strips away the oil her skin will think it's too dry and go into overdrive producing more oil, then she'll be stuck in a vicious cycle of harsh cleansing to oil slick and back.

Using an oil cleanser is best for oily skin because it doesn't strip the natural oils from the face and brings it back into balance. The Body Shop Chamomile Cleansing Balm is good, so is Dermalogica Precleanse or The Sanctuary cleansing oil. Add a light serum and moisturiser and her skin should begin to balance itself within a few days. For moisturisers I recommend The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors mixed with one of their oils, Dermalogica Active Moist, or something from the Superdrug Simply Pure range.

Hi OP, I’ve recently discovered Kiels oil-free gel cream and I like it. I’ve always had oily skin and my face tends to be a bit oil slick like after moisturising and my make up slides off. However I’m now much less shiny and decently hydrated. It costs about £25 a pot.

Gone from expensive brand to neutrogena hydro burst water gel, flipping amazing stuff. Also origins mattifying gel moisutiser is fab

Following if u don't mind!

@PippiDeLena totally agree with everything you've said. If your skin is oily, the worst thing you can do is try to strip it of oil, or try to mattify it. Use oils, stop making you skin think it needs to produce more!
