Best way to curl bottom of hair?

What bit of kit do I need?

My little girl has been asking to have her hair curled at the bottom; at the last hairdressing appointment the stylist did it using tongs - which she absolutely loved. But she has fine hair so the curls didn't last long.

The stylist mentioned using straighteners.

Or would a Babyliss curl secret be any good? Seems pricey but I could pick one up 2nd hand.

Anyone?

I use my straighteners! Watch youtube videos to see different techniques. I sort of glide them down my hair then toward the end rotate the straighteners and pull them down. That way you get curls/waves that don't start until half way down or whatever.

Curl secret literally did nothing for my hair. I would use straighteners too

Remington curl revolution is brilliant

Thanks for the comments.

I don't straighten or curl my hair so have no idea.

I'd be reluctant to invest in the Babyliss due to cost, although the reviews seem positive.

Would bog-standard straighteners do the trick? Or a special type?

@partysong - Thanks - I see it's on special offer in amazon just now.

Or a wand/tong and leave the bottom out
Use a thermal spray to protect her hair and it should keep it in longer

Why not just make your life easier and get a curling tong? Cheapest one on Argos is 9.99, but there’s a big barrel one for 14.99 which will be good for just doing the bottom of the hair.

Also, to make curls last longer, spray the hair section with a fine mist of hair spray before you curl, curl it. Repeat over and over, but leave all the curls as they are until the whole head is done, and they’ll have cooled down. She’lol look like a porcelain doll with perfect stiff ringlets. But then get some serum on your fingers and run your fingers through them all to soften them up and make them look loose and natural. It works.

I brought my DD the Babyliss Big Curl and it is great, however I find it takes longer than using the straighteners as you wait for the beeps to finish for each section, the curl def lasts longer though and she has fine straight hair. We use a heat protection spray first, do not touch curls until all done then like PP said, run fingers lightly through hair with serum and set with hairspray, should find lasts longer.

Or the straighteners do work too but I can't achieve such a nice curl personally, it takes practise.

I curl the bottom of my hair with straighteners. But I would only do this very rarely on a small child. Their hair is fragile and it will be ruined if you are doing this repeatedly

PullingMySocksUp · 28/09/2019 12:19

Rags would be gentle. Just tie up the bottom of the hair in sections when it’s damp.
How old is she? Just thinking about what’s best.

You could try a product called Curlformers. They're like preformed ringlets and are applied to damp hair using a rod. The smaller ones should be suitable to use on the ends. I usually sleep in mine and wake up with fab curls next day, no heat needed so very gentle. Like others have said, warm a little serum with fingers and run through to loosen the curls and mist with a little hairspray. If you don't want to sleep in them, just use a hairdryer. There are loads of tutorials on YouTube.
