Why is it so hard to get navy boots?

There must be almost as many navy basics in the the shops as black so why are there so few navy shoes generally and boots in particular?

For the last few years I’ve been trying to find a pair of navy ankle boots but I can never find the right pair. If I wanted black boots, I could have bought them 50 times over!

I want flat navy ankle boots. Not Chelsea boots. Not lace up (which I already have). Preferably leather not suede.

I’ve actually seen some lovely ones in Principles in Debenhams but annoyingly they’re synthetic which I don’t think keep your feet warm or dry.

Last year I decided I’d switch the search from navy to burgundy (because burgundy would go as well as navy with my navy coat) but to no avail.

I’ve tried all the big well known shops. Has anyone any suggestions of where else to look?

Some here

Stumpedasatree · 26/09/2019 23:24

Sorry, they're Chelsea!

DuchessDumbarton · 26/09/2019 23:36

Tommy Hilfiger has loads?

KateCantab · 27/09/2019 06:50

I prefer navy too. In the past I have bought ankle boots in M and S and also Next. I have a pair which are synthetic but I honestly don’t notice any difference when I’m wearing them.

Until yesterday I has the exact same frustration, then I discovered a moshulu shop. They had so many different height navy leather boots and had 20% off. There’s only a few shops but they’ve got a website moshulu.co.uk

Yes this is so annoying. I've been looking for some navy boots for years. Finally got some this year. White stuff and Seasalt both have a few pairs this year.

TattiePants · 27/09/2019 10:55

I've always wondered the same thing. I'd love a pair of flat leather ankle boots in both navy and grey. I though Hilfiger looked promising but the only flat leather boots have awful branding all over them. Off to look at the other suggestions with fingers crossed.

Ninkaninus · 27/09/2019 10:57

Have you checked Timberland, Jigsaw, Jaeger, Whistles, Toast, Barbour?

All are pretty likely to have burgundy boots.

BrennieGirl · 27/09/2019 22:05

Thanks for all he replies. Loads of great suggestions.

I know it’s not actually what you’re looking for, but I saw a lovely pair of suede over the knee boots at Clark’s. I want them.

TimeforaGandT · 27/09/2019 22:19

Boden always have navy boots so worth a look....

Bluesheep8 · 28/09/2019 07:50

I'm sure I recall QVC having some once, just because I remember the presenters bemoaning the lack of navy boots available. I think they were Clarks.

PullingMySocksUp · 28/09/2019 11:38

The synthetic boots I’ve had were totally warm and waterproof. Just thought I’d mention in case it opens some options.

MoltonSilver · 28/09/2019 11:55

Can you post a picture of the type of boot you're looking for in a different colour?

Ninkaninus · 28/09/2019 12:09

TBH I’d not really wear navy coat and navy boots - too matchy matchy for me and can look a bit like one doesn’t really know how to dress. So I’d sooner look for chocolate brown, burgundy, cherry red or even a wild card like leopard print (done well). The dark olive green/browny leather can look great too.

BrennieGirl · 28/09/2019 14:16

I really like these sea salt ones (thanks Stumpedasatree) www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/shoes-sandals-boots/boots/shoreline-low-ankle-boot-dark-night.htm

And these are the Principles ones I like www.debenhams.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10052_10001_067010508943_-1

I have to disagree with the poster who said navy coats and boots are too matchy matchy. You wouldn’t say that about black coat and boots. If I have on an outfit that warrants navy boots/shoes, I certainly wouldn’t put a black coat on over it (burgundy would look nice but I don’t have a burgundy coat). I know it’s supposed to be acceptable but I just can’t wear black and navy together unless the navy is more of a royal blue.

Those sea salt ones are really nice. I've actually found in the past that finding navy shoes is more difficult than you'd expect

Ninkaninus · 28/09/2019 14:26

I would say that about black boots and coat too. I try to avoid it where I can, unless there is something about the boots that adds a bit of interest and makes them a less ‘safe’ choice. That’s just my personal preference, and I did state that OP might not feel that way (obviously, as she’s looking for navy boots to match her coat...). However I mentioned it for two reasons - firstly, because sometimes it’s good to get out of a style rut, and also because if finding navy boots has proved an onerous task then looking for something else might be a better solution!

Ninkaninus · 28/09/2019 14:27

Oh OP haha I totally missed that it was you that said that. Obviously need another coffee! Grin

Ninkaninus · 28/09/2019 14:28

Ah see I love black and navy together - I think it’s very chic if done right. It’s totally okay to have different preferences and I really wasn’t pooh-poohing it, just thought maybe you hadn’t considered that several other colours would go perfectly well with a navy coat!

JaceLancs · 28/09/2019 14:32

Last year moda en pelle had lots of navy boots

wineoclockthanks · 28/09/2019 14:32

Clarks have some.

Ninkaninus · 28/09/2019 14:33

The Seasalt ones are nice!

Ninkaninus · 28/09/2019 14:37

Ah shit I’ve just read back and seen that I didn’t put my usual disclaimer about personal taste in there so apologies for that - I’ve obviously made a similar comment elsewhere recently and got confused!
